LEBANON 1st innings
Chepudi Tunta, Peshang Hazari and Saleel Shareef all hit elegant half-centuries, but failed to reach the three-figure mark. Lebanon did well to post 391 with the pitch doing a fair bit for the bowlers.
AUSTRALIA 1st innings
Aussie skipper Umair Nazim stood tall to score a century while the rest of Australia's batting crumbled around him. They ended up conceding a 153-run first innings lead to the home side.
LEBANON 2nd innings
A gritty 127-run stand between Azad Farrukhzad and Chepudi Tunta helped Lebanon recover from the shambles at 39/3. The lower-order did well enough to set the Australians a huge target of 456 with a day and a half remaining.

This is quite a dramatic turnaround after being ahead by 250+ runs. Full credit to their #1,3 and 4 for stitching up two back to back 150+ partnerships but I would expect more from our spinner on a deteriorated pitch particularly after how good a support they have been getting from the seamers. I cannot blame the batsmen to take the safe route because you would not want to take chances chasing 250 on a last day pitch after being reduced to 4/63 leading series 1-0. I hope we would play more positively and bring out the result in our favour.

Lithuania defeated as controversy reigns over "unfair" Bairiki pitch

Kiribati's dominating victory over a struggling Lithuania side will be overshadowed by complaints that the pitch used at the Bairiki ground was not up to international standards. While the pitch did appear underprepared, it ought to not overshadow what was a shambolic performance by Lithuania's batsmen and a great bowling performance by Kiribatian bowler Wiremu Pikari.
Kiribati won the toss and elected to bowl on a surprisingly green surface, not the sort often seen on the Pacific Island. Lithuania's batsmen struggled instantly, Jonaitis being Pikari's first victim off his third delivery, and the returning Robertas Grybas fell for two after a ball that jumped off a length was gloved to the keeper. This is when the pitch's inconsistent bounce began to trouble Lithuania, with some balls bouncing full of a length passing the batsman at weight-height, while others from much shorter lengths stayed much lower. It was one of the latter than dismissed the dangerous Erikas Naujokas for two; a ball pitched short of a length stayed very low and trapped the Lithuanian batsman on his back foot, although later review showed that the ball may have pitched outside leg. Lithuania's only batsman that didn't appear to be spooked by the pitch was Valdas Adomaitis, who appeared to be playing on a totally different wicket while scoring his 33 not-out. No other Lithuanian batsman got into double-figures, with wicket-keeper Titas Kampas getting closest scoring 9, equalling "extras" as the second-highest scoring Lithuanian batsman. Although every Kiribati bowler took advantage of the favourable pitch conditions, Pikari was by far the best, with his mix of movement both off the pitch and in the air complementing the inconsistent bounce making him almost impossible to play. The pitch began to flatten out slightly as Lithuania's tail enders came to the crease, but none of Lithuania's bowlers were able to hang around and let Adomaitis build a creditable score.
A Kiribati side with very little pressure were able to play very freely, managing to destroy the 72-run target by the eleventh over. Tangaroa Tahana showed by scoring a very quick 43 runs. There was a scare early in the innings when Kawhena ran himself out in the third over of the innings, but by then a third of the target was already down. Lithuania's bowling lacked the bite and consistency that the Kiribati attack had. Indeed, many may point to Lithuania's failure with the ball when arguing that the pitch was not unfair, and that Lithuania's awful batting performance was their own fault. Medium-pacer Kairys was the only Lithuanian bowler to take a wicket, and none of the other bowlers (including returned quick Minkus) were able to get on top of an aggressive Kiribati.
Reaction within the Lithuanian press of the game was almost unanimous in condemning the pitch, although many did criticise the "unbelievably careless" batting of the Lithuanian side. The criticism started during coverage of the match, with Kasparas Vilutis (Lithuanian international, 1992-1995 and Viasat cricket commentator) heavily criticising the pitch during his commentary on the game comparing it unfavourably to wickets used in the early independence years. Edgaras Buksaitis, Respublika's primary cricket writer, was most damning in his complaints over the pitch, describing it as "the worst wicket I've ever seen a professional cricket game played on, ever". He also argued in favour of eliminating the toss in games featuring a side with home advantage in favour of allowing the away team to select whether to bat or bowl, a reform that's been a favourite of Lithuania's governing body for several years. The international reaction is a great deal more mixed, with ESPN Cricinfo's arguing that although the pitch "was not perfect", a high-quality side would be able to put on "at least a three-figure score" on all but the sort of pitches that would be declared dangerous.
In the post-match press conference Lithuanian captain Mindaugas Vytautas refused to comment on the conditions on the pitch, preferring instead to focus on Adomaitis's "superlative" batting effort. However, Viasat's sources within Cricket Lithuania inform us that feeling within the organisation are very critical of the pitch. The team definitely should have played better, but pitches like that are not appropriate for international cricket which should be a fair contest between bat and ball. Its also a little suspicious that this occurred in a game featuring the hosts who could guarantee their final place with a victory in the game. This demonstrates why our proposed reforms to eliminate the toss in games where a home advantage is present are a good idea; they'd prevent pitch-doctoring such as this."
We contacted the Kiribatian Cricket Authorities for comment on these allegations, and have yet to receive a reply. We will update this story when one is received.
KCKA apologises for shameful pitch, accepts points deduction
On behalf of the board that employs him to coach, Murphy Su'a told the press that: "the wicket on which that fixture was utterly unfit, and we can only apologise to the Lithuanian players for having to play on it. We will of course accept the deduction of any points earned from that victory, accepting responsibility for the disappointing fixture."
However, the points deduction that the KCKA has accepted does not affect the standings of the group - the points earned from the first two wins were enough to go through, leading some to question whether this was in fact a hollow gesture.

"The best places to play in the World": Vilnius, Klaipėda, Šiauliai, Nida set to host Cricket European Cup matches
In a joint press-conference at the National Cricket Stadium today, Cricket Lithuania and the European Cricket Conference announced the cities in which the European Cup matches would be held in. The final of the competition will be held in the National Cricket Stadium in Vilnius, with earlier matches being held in Klaipėda, Šiauliai and Nida.
Edward Seabrook, the outgoing President of Cricket Lithuania, described the shortlist of venues as "The best places to place Cricket in Europe, if not the world. We have a great mix of old and new, plus Nepriklausomybės parkas is one of the most iconic venues in Cricket. Its an exciting list of venues to represent an incredibly exciting time for both Lithuanian and European cricket. Our job now is to prepare for those that will come to visit Lithuania, and work to make sure that they enjoy their time in this great country".
Semi-final venues have yet to be confirmed: although it is believed that one will definitely be hosted in the Talšos. Nida is believed to be the preferred venue for the second semi, although local laws forbid floodlighting which would require a day game to be played which is believed to be against the wishes of international broadcasters, as well as local officials. There often are travel problems following games at Independence Park, due to the limited number of passenger and foot ferries that can be ran between Smiltyne and Klaipėda, and these would only likely get worse for a major semi-final.
Many were surprised to see a Kaunas venue not contained in the final short-list. Many believe that this is a continuation of Cricket Lithuania's protests against the local governments withdrawal of financial assistance for a replacement to the demolished Kaunas Cricket Club Ground; with Kaunas Cricket Club currently forced to switch between three venues that are not up to international standards. The lack of any games in Lithuania's second city will not help to develop the game in a place where it remains weak, with residents having to travel to Vilnius or Šiauliai to see matches.
The European Cup is the first time that a major Cricket championship has been held in Lithuania, and also the first time that its been held in a post-communist state. It also sees a non-Baltic Eastern European side manage to qualify for the first time, with Russia defeating Portugal by two wickets in the qualifying play-offs held in Germany. However, Latvia miss their first European Cup for several years, after an upset loss against a surprisingly strong San Marino team. Their success marks the first time that a team from the tiny republic has managed to qualify for a major European sporting competition.
The full list of qualifiers show that although the sport is developing, its struggling to escape its Northern European power base with a majority of teams coming from that region. England always go into European Cups as a favourite, although they are yet to win the cup. Germany are the only two-time winners of the competition, however they have been struggling for form in recent years. The "outsiders" are lead by Spain who've performed well in recent months and should go into the competition well rested. The hosts have struggled for consistent one-day form in recent years, however home advantage may be an important factor, and this local knowledge may also benefit the Estonians.

Švyturio kriketo aikštynas, Klaipėda
The "home" of Lithuanian cricket has traditionally been seen as being the Baltic coast due to the regions German heritage, and Klaipėda was the base of Lithuanian cricket from the 1922 invasion right through to its secession to Germany in May 1939. The Soviet occupation prevented the reformation of a formal Cricket structure until the mid-80s although casual Cricket games remained a common sight in the parks of Klaipėda for much of this period. The "Švy", as some local fans call it (the ground itself is named after a local brewery who provided significant funding for both it and the next-door Basketball Arena which opened a a decade after the Cricket ground) was the first ground built for international cricket, hosting Lithuania's first Test match against England in May 2000. Its the home of Klaipėda Cricket Club, the oldest in the country with links right back to the "Memel Cricket and Gymnastics Club" of 1883, and the most successful club in national competitions since independence. Its a more balanced pitch than most in the country, being almost England-like in its characteristics. It usually swings and seams early, before settling down into a batsman-friendly pitch although good bowling rarely goes unrewarded. However aggressive spin is rarely a factor in Test Matches, never mind Limited Overs contests. Expect balanced games here, where the toss is less important than it usually is.
Nepriklausomybės parkas, Nida
"Independence Park" is one of the most unique sports stadiums in the world, and it is often listed on lists of best international Cricket grounds due to its unique location and atmosphere. It is one of the few large open spaces on the Curonian Split, and during the winter the outfield is opened as a public park. The entire Curonian Split is a UNESCO World Heritage Site which is often a complication, as desired changes to the ground often have to come second to the regions unique ecology. Although a grandstand has been constructed in recent years (after many years of debate between the Neringa Cricket Club, local conservationists and UNESCO) many still prefer to view from the many sand dunes the surround the ground; one of which is just yards from the beach. The wicket is more subcontinental than european: dry, often rather slow, benefitting first batting and then spin bowlers. Fast bowlers who've mastered the art of reverse swing may also see some success, even in the later overs of a One Day International. The sandy outfield (the entire Split is built upon sand) is often rather fast and challenging for fielding sides, and also abrasive to the ball which limits the use of conventional swing. Expect decent scores, and some rare aggressive spin bowling in an ODI.
MAXIMA Talšos sporto stadionas, Šiauliai
A few years ago the Talšos appeared dead: now it is ready to host a major Cricket tournament for the first time. Plans for a modern ground were proposed in the middle of the last decade but were successfully fought against by the "Išsaugoti TALŠOS" (Save the Talšos) campaign, led by local sports fans, environmentalists and local businessmen in the areas around the ground. Instead, money was invested in significantly upgrading the facilities in Lithuania's oldest existing Cricket ground (although its history, being built for football in the 70s, is nothing compared to many other countries) and now they are up to standard, without eliminating the history and atmosphere that the ground has. It retains its place as the only multi-purpose sports stadium in Lithuania; the ground is used for Rugby outwith the Cricket season: with the Šiauliai BaltRex managing to consistently be on the cusp of success, being runners up for nine of the last ten years in Lithuania's national Rugby Championships*. This pitch is probably the most similar to a regular Lithuanian pitch: low, slow and often green. It does often seam early and always swings a lot, but if the new ball is seen off things become significantly easier. Used Šiauliai wickets lose the green tinge and flatten out; but record scores are often rare due to the comparatively slow pitch.
Nacionalinis kriketo stadionas, Vilnius
By far the newest of the grounds used, the National Cricket Stadium opened with great fanfare in 2008 hosting the traditional "Battle of the Baltic" Test against Estonia. Being the home of Cricket Lithuania and next door to the National Training Centre the entire Lithuanian set-up are very familiar with the place, while high-level club players get experience at the ground playing against Vilnius Cricket Club. It is the largest purpose-built Cricket ground in Eastern Europe, with over 20,000 people able to watch a game in comfort. The wicket generally favours out-and-out pace bowlers, being by far the bounciest of the major grounds in the country. Swing is always a factor in the Baltic States although less of a factor here as the ball wears down, with reverse swing occasionally seen at the tail end of Test wickets. The bounce of the pitch also can assist clever spin bowlers who are able to utilise it, and this becomes more of a factor on a used wicket. Expect some explosive bowling from faster bowlers, and high scores from expressive batsmen.
* This is actually true, it must be terrible to be a player in that team and always finish second
Also if you're looking for an odd holiday destination Klaipeda is really quite nice, spent a month there on a uni language and exchange course (hence the use of lithuanian, although a lot of it is from google translate) and the weather is nice and the local beaches are honestly . The curonian split is an incredibly interesting place, and IRL you wouldn't be allowed to have a cricket ground there but I'm allowed to use liberties here!
