Tournament to crown the first-class champions of the world.
Over 116 years, domestic teams from a dozen nations will be represented, with around the same number of guest teams also playing on an invitational basis.
World War One
To this point, all tournaments have been played over three matches, apart from the first three Championships, which were played over a single fixture.
The era of contraction begins: back down to eight teams.
Over 116 years, domestic teams from a dozen nations will be represented, with around the same number of guest teams also playing on an invitational basis.

1912: The year of the ill-fated Triangular Tournament, held in England between the three Test nations of the day: Australia, England and South Africa. First mooted by Sir Abe Bailey, it fell victim to infighting, squabbling, and the British climate. It has never been repeated.
But what if it had worked out to be something bigger, better, and altogether longer-lasting? This tournament is the story of what might have been.

In the early 20th Century, Argentina were one of the strongest teams in the world. But for the stroke of a statistician's pen, the first-class games between Argentina and the MCC could have made them the fourth Test nation.

The Triangular Tournament saw a star-studded English side (Hobbs, Fry, Jessop, Rhodes, etc.) go largely unchallenged. With stronger and more diverse opposition, it might have been a different story.

They became little more than a footnote in cricket history, but the Gentlemen of Philadelphia were once a force to reckon with, a de facto American national team who defeated both Australia and England regularly. They declined after WWI.

Summer 2015:
Following widespread dissatisfaction with the decision of the ICC (International Cricket Council) to reduce the number of teams competing in the World Cup to ten teams, those countries who were formerly Associate and Affiliate members have made the decision to break away from the ICC in the aftermath of the 2015 World Cup to form the GCA (Global Cricket Association). The first action of this new governing body is to arrange a new World Cup competition, which will run in Europe in the summer of 2015.
However, in an attempt to quash the rebels' progress before it really starts, the ICC has imposed a two-year embargo from the professional game on any player who participates in a GCA-backed event, meaning that several of the leading teams' best players have declared themselves unavailable for the event.

There is a fairly even split here between players who want to keep their options open to play in Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan competitions and those who have put their country first.

It's definitely a case of revolution and not evolution for this Kenyan side. A string of insipid performances has led to much of the old guard being cast aside and replaced with the new.

Cricket Through The Ages:
In real life, the Triangular Tournament of 1912 was deemed to be a failure.
But what if there was something bigger? Something better?
Following the War, the Championship was expanded to ten teams.
And, with the new Millennium, the event grew again: to twelve teams.

What if the 1975 Cricket World Cup had led the way with a big, 16-team tournament. Perhaps it could grow to 20 after the millenium?
And what if we expanded to 20 for the new Millennium?

Oh I really can't be bothered with all these. Just do a Statsguru search if it's that important.
The Global Cricket League is the new face of List A cricket. Visiting eight of the world's major cities, it aims to spread cricket into its greatest untapped market. The 120-strong player pool is unique in that each and every player is representing a different country; from Anguilla to Zambia, from Montserrat to Macedonia, the WCL is the most ambitious project cricket has ever seen.
Each of the eight teams has a squad of fifteen players, including a "local player" from their country of origin, and a "star player" from their continent of origin. There are no restrictions on the selection of the final XI, except that the local player must play in every game.
