New Zealand XI v England XI - 3 day match - at Christchurch - 1991/2

Alec Stewart and Robin Smith continued their good form from the 1st innings with half centuries and Graeme Hick spent some valuable time in the middle before a declaration after Lunch on Day 3 at 168/2.
The New Zealand XI were left a target of 204 to win in 58 overs on a pitch which will change to Uneven Bounce after Tea giving the England XI bowlers a chance.

New Zealand XI v England XI - 3 day match - at Christchurch - 1991/2

Excellent bowling by the England XI seamers on a pitch offering some Uneven Bounce late in the day set up a 74 run win with just 10 minutes to spare.
Phil DeFreitas and Derek Pringle shared 7 wickets and must now come into contention for the 2nd Test at Auckland given the struggles of the England attack in the 1st Test.
Alec Stewart was named Man of the Match for scores of 103* and 54 as he proved his fitness after some injury struggles so far on tour.

Here are the details of your next game, the 2nd Test in Auckland, Gooch is injured and will have to be replaced.

New Zealand v England - 2nd Test - at Eden Park, Auckland - 1991/2

Pitch:
87 - A well prepared pitch which is likely to play easily throughout the match.
There may be some help for the seamers on the first morning until the affects of overnight watering wear off but after that happens the bowlers are likely to toil.

Day 1 Starting Pitch: Green Wicket

Day 1 Weather: Hot and Humid (bonus to Swing deliveries)

Injuries: G.A.Gooch - Knee Injury (miss 1 match)

Solves that problem. Watkin in at 9. Plan was Tuffers, 2 seamers and a quick (rotating Dev & Syd to keep fit and firing). Batting form made none of the top 6 droppable. Daffy & Prings form, the overhead conditions and the fact we don't really have a part time option without Gooch means, 4 seamers rather than 3 and a quick.

Humid Conditions and Green Pitch should help Watkin, and England get lucky and win the Toss and bowl first, let's see how he goes.

@Welwyn

Here is the New Zealand team for the 2nd Test, a few changes, not quite the same as real life due to form and pitch conditions.
Greatbatch shifts up to open in place of the out of form Hartland, Rutherford comes in at 5, Smith retains to gloves due to good batting form in the 1st Test.
Left arm seamer Murphy Sua gets a Test debut on his home ground in place of allrounder Shane Thomson due to pitch conditions, and Willie Watson comes in for Pringle.

Toss: England

Sent in on a Green pitch New Zealand were reduced to 73/4 before the pitch flattened out after Lunch into a Good Batting Wicket allowing them to recover.
On his return to the side Ken Rutherford justified his recall with a magnificent career best 209 to take the wind out of England's sails and lead his team to a total of 483.
Rutherford shared big partnerships with allrounders Dipak Patel and Chris Cairns who made half centuries to revive the innings after a bad start.
The England attack struggled with the flat pitch after Lunch on the 1st Day with Phil DeFreitas and Steve Watkin the best of them with 3 wickets each.

Ouch, maybe should have kept the real quick in.
Swing bowlers do better on flat pitches because they retain their Swing bonus so Watkin and Pringle were probably the right picks, they swing it more than the others.
Bicknell might be useful with his Swing and his good economy, but you might not want to debut him in Tests this early in his career, he played some ODIs in New Zealand in 1990/1 so he might fit.
Gus and Daffy get good Swing when it's Humid or Overcast but not so much usually, sometimes with the New Ball, they are more seam bowlers in this game, Malcolm has no Swing but he does have a good Yorker.

New Zealand v England - 2nd Test - at Eden Park, Auckland - 1991/2

The England 1st innings largely followed the pattern of the home side's with 4 early wickets then a big recovery through a double century, this time a career best by Nasser Hussain.
Hussain has been brilliant form on this tour notching at least a century in each of his innings and added 263 for the 5th wicket with keeper Jack Russell.
Russell scored a century this time after being unluckily out in the 1st Test and his form with the bat has been a huge positive for his team.
New Zealand seamer Willie Watson bowled well to take a 5 wicket haul to restrict England to a total of 384 with the innings ending just before Stumps on Day 3.
The home side begin their 2nd innings in the 1st session on Day 4 with a lead of 99 in Humid conditions on a Good Batting Wicket.
