Cricket Grounds

JK I remeber you saying that the Google Sketchup MCG cannot be added to TAOC as it has about thrice the number of textures than the limit of TAOC stadiums, so I am just wondering, what is the standard amount of textures that can be incorporated in a stadium??

the stadium looks good after the render but it still has a little cartoonish feeling. is there anyway to turn that cartoon feeling off in sketchup. because i get that too when im modeling my stadiums. :(

well...i couldnt agree more !! thats cause MAX has been one of the most widely used 3d application for years and google sketch-up is still a novice with limited resources and less flexibility...

theres no comparison at all between MAX and sketch-up !

sketch-up = 500$
MAX = 3500$

doesnt that alone tell you the difference :D ;) :p

Erm......does price really matter that much?? I mean blender, which is a free software, is often compared to high-end 3d graphics softwares such as Cinema 4D, or even 3DS MAX for its vast amount of features similar to those compared with. For a free software that is quite respectable, and learning it is the only thing that is holding me back from producing a quick stadium with Sketchup.

well..that was more like a literal comparison more so than anything else...
yes...blender is definitely better than sketch-up !! although there isnt a
great amount of documentation for blender...

also, hondeyho had created the lords in blender...so yes...blender is a great 3D software...if your gonna make it in blender...then all good from me..
although i'd be a bit hesitant if your opting for sketch-up !

I have made Karachi in sketchup, but i think i will learn and start working on blender .

I too, think it looks rather excellent for anything done in Sketchup, so perhaps the best thing would be to give the stadiums to jk16_4 for his opinion before you thwart all your stadiums and hurriedly switch to blender.

Waraa, mate, you obviously have some raw talent. :clap

That is some great work you're doing there. I think if you spent a bit of time learning Blender then you could really become a great modeller. Totally up to you, but judging by your work here i think you are ready to take your modelling to the next level.

It seems guys that Google Sketchup is great for learning some basics of modeling, but i just dont think we will be able to feasibly use them in the game :(

I think the enthusiasm here is awesome and its great to see someone like Waraa taking the bull by the horns and giving it his best shot!

Thanks all for yr support. I will make some changes to Karachi, then one last attempt at the Dambulla Stadium(SL) on sketchup. Meanwhile i will try to improve myself on blender.

I just tried working on blender. Blimey, its seriously complex. Will try and get used to it in a few days.

The good thing is that Mohali looked cartoony not because of sketchup but me. It was my inexperience at texturing. I assure you Karachi and Dambulla will look better.

lol...MAX is much more complex and deep than blender.....:p ;)

thats a good thing....although i'd suggest you hold off your sketch-up work
for the moment until everything gets sorted out....and the possibility
of a smooth import is looking quite slim...:( :(

I tried out a few simple models on blender-will slowly try a stadium.

The thing is- one can import .dae(google sketchup) files into blender-but when i try that, it says error: need python full version-check console-i thought the full version of blender was free?

It is the full version, you just need to install python: http://www.python.org/ftp/python/2.5.1/python-2.5.1.msi
Python is a scripting language, it isn't included with blender by default because it isn't needed for most parts of blender.
