Seven wickets for Zimbabwe captain Prosper Utseya gave his team victory over Namibia in their first DCCC Championship match at the redeveloped Trent Bridge.

Winning the toss and batting first, many of the Zimbabweans made starts but none went on to make half centuries. Opener Stuart Carlisle was the top scorer with 35.

A partnership of 54 for the 8th wicket between Blignaut and Ewing lifted them to 162/7 from their 20 overs.

7/48 from the skipper Utseya helped run through the Namibian batting order for 140 with 4 overs to spare.

A half century from Coventry and 4/47 from captain Prosper Utseya gave Zimbabwe victory in the DCCC Championship match at the Swalec Stadium in Cardiff.

Zimbabwe lose their first wicket to a run out

Coventry's 56 came from just 21 balls with 10 boundaries. Most of his runs came in an 83 run partnership with Tatenda Taibu, who contributed 43. Canada were set a formidable 202 to win off 120 balls.

Canada's last chance falls

No one could get a start for the Canadians and Utseya sealed the win, he has now taken 11 wickets in the tournament. They were all out for 148 with two overs to spare.

Sloppy Bangladesh sneak victory in thriller

Another full house at a cloudy Edgbaston saw Bangladesh narrowly beat Namibia by 1 wicket.

Namibia won the toss and elected to bat first, firing on all cylinders, but they lost wickets at regular intervals to keep the defending champions in it.

Brian Murgatroyd's 46 off 29 balls, added to some poor fielding, propelled the Africans to 166 all out... with 6 overs to spare.

Bangladesh showed nothing but attacking intent, captain Habibul Bashar bringing up a surprising 11 ball fifty, but some good bowling towards the end meant they could only crawl over the line with 1 wicket remaining.

If you watched any of the DCCC Championship in 2006, you would not believe that the Zimbabweans are made up of much the same team this year.

They were exceptional once again as they ensured they would be the only team capable of the 100% record with a 9 wicket win over Bangladesh.

Old Trafford was bathed in sunshine as the Tigers were left whimpering by Elton Chigumbura. He took 6/24 as they were all out for just 109.

The Zimbabweans then roared home, losing just the one wicket in the process, and hammered home that they are the favourites for the final, when these two teams will meet again.

Tomorrow: dead rubber. Canada-Namibia in Leeds.

Bangladesh 109 all out (Chigumbura 6/24)
Zimbabwe 110/1

Zimbabwe won by 9 wickets

Dead rubber is cancelled in show of common sense

DCCC president Aravinda de Silva made 31 international centuries for Sri Lanka

The Developing Countries Cricket Council has cancelled the last match in the group stages of its Championship because nothing is riding on it.

The match between Canada and Namibia was scheduled to take place at the Headingley Carnegie Stadium, but it will not go ahead because both teams have no chance of reaching the final.

"It has been decided to cancel the DCCC Championship match between Canada and Namibia because it has no bearing on the competition now" said DCCC president Aravinda de Silva.

People who had bought tickets for the match will be able to use them for any match at next year's event.

This means that the final, between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, at Lord's is the only match remaining in the tournament.

"For a few, heady moments our country was fine again"

Prosper Utseya muttered these words as he lifted the DCCC Championship trophy after his Zimbabwe side beat Bangladesh by 7 runs at Lord's.

Winning the toss, batting first, opener Stuart Carlisle was the pick of a poor batting performance with 59. 5 of Bangladesh's 6 bowlers took a wicket each.

Some fine death bowling from Gary Ewing left him with figures of 4/64 and handed Zimbabwe their first major international title, priceless amid political and economic unrest.

ZIMBABWE: 176/9
BANGLADESH: 169 ALL OUT

ZIMBABWE WON BY 7 RUNS & THE DCCC CHAMPIONSHIP

Yes. If I am still here next year. I have a lot of time to kill this summer though so the DCCC might have something else up their sleeves. ;)
