Team History
The Delhi Capitals is one of the eight founding teams that plays in the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL). Co-owned by the GMR Group and the JSW Group, Delhi Capitals was established in 2008 as Delhi Daredevils before embracing a new avatar in December 2018. The Delhi Capitals has a home in the Arun Jaitley Stadium (formerly known as Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium).

Currently coached by Australian legend Ricky Ponting, the Delhi Capitals have made the semifinals of the competition on two occasions - in 2008 and 2009, even topping the table in the latter edition. However, the team's high point arrived in the 2012 season where it made the play-off stages of the IPL and the semifinal of the Champions League Twenty20.

This however, was followed by few seasons where the franchise made a new low by consistently staying at the bottom of the table. With their key members ageing the Daredevils side left out Virender Sehwag, Mahela Jayawardene & David Warner before the 2014 season. They brought in youngsters like Sanju Samson, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and Prithvi Shaw into the scheme of things with experience of Zaheer Khan to lead them. They found new coaching staff in Rahul Dravid & Ricky Ponting.

The new coaching staff consistently gave youngsters a chance to develop themselves. They brought in an Overseas pro like Kagiso Rabada to strengthen their bowling. Gautam Gambhir before the 2018 season expressed his intentions to join the Delhi Camp. However, his own form with the bat went on to decline which in turn hampered the side. He surprised everyone by stepping down mid-season and gave the leadership to Shreyas Iyer. Iyer impressed one and all by his leadership skills and strong backing of players at a very young age of just 23!

In 2018, the GMR Group was joined by the JSW Group as Delhi Daredevils got rebranded to Delhi Capitals for the 2019 season. The rebranding brought in more expertise to build the team and manage them with efficiency. Some more quality players like Shikhar Dhawan and Colin Ingram joined them as the middle order of their batting got the much needed experience. R Ashwin also joined this team strengthening the bowling department. One of the major things that made the difference was someone like Marcus Stoinis consistently adding some useful runs down the order in 2020 season. They made it to the Finals in 2020 but lost to the Mumbai Indians who won their 5th title. Currently, they are in another rebuilding phase with swash-buckling wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant to lead them.
