Review Demo impressions thread

Ouch! It's what happens when you bring something out several months before it is ready.

I did a work placement there from college at the end of May (so all the T20s, Somerset CC and the Aussies) and they asked me to stay on after that. Laptop is for programming the tills, as prices differ for different formats. Come match time I'll be working one of the bars, hopefully in the Shark Shack, as we have so much fun in there! :banana2

Nice one!

Enjoy the game tomorrow (if you get to see much of it) and pray for good weather!

I've now officially had it with the Xbox. I was going to get a new one as they are so cheap but I've heard that even the latest ones still RROD. That is a disgrace.

The RRoD is caused by lack of ventilation. You'd think they'd be able to do something about that easily as console developers wouldnt you.

I have forgot to mention few things.

1. I was batting i advanced down the wicket to a short ball and played it towards fine leg, i got a top edge and mistimes the shot keeper ran good 5-7yards and dive for the catch. Looks stunning and so realistic.

2. I have played more than 50 times and only once i had an oppertunity to stump the AI.

3. Some of the shots are pretty good like, cover drive, paddle sweep, traditional sweep, and leg glance they all look amazing.

4. I have never enjoyed bowling as much as i have done in this game.

guys we are all in for a treat. Atleast we are going to have once decent cricket game after a decade. lets hope this demo is from an old build and transmission have managed to tweak those silly things. apart from that this is a great game.

Mate - same thing happened to me about 2 month ago. Is your x box registered?

Send Msoft an email and they will pay for you to ship it to them for repair. In the end they sent me a brand new one, had it back within 10 days. very ood service!

They extend warranty for 3 years for RROD.

It's absolutely mind boggling isn't it? Shocking disrespect for their customers.

Thanks mate but they have already repaired it twice and it is now so old it is even out of the 3 year extended warranty. I went on the MS website to request a repair and it ended with them asking for my credit card details. Screw that.

If they think they can charge me for their crappy console repair service then they are clealy barking.

I'd rather forget all about the Xbox and give my money to Sony. At least they released a quality console despite it's outrageous price tag.

One question during ODI and 20/20 modes on the game will the game have power play? would be nice to see for realism.
Also I know its only a demo out at the moment and you probably cant do every single shot. But will you be able to do the KP switch? That would be interesting and slog sweeps?

I know for fact that powerplays are in.

I don't think switch hitting is there though. Not certain but I have not seen anyone do it, both in my demo or in all the videos that have been posted.

Yeah, the free hit rules in too.

It's posts like this that get me shivering with excitement about the game.

That and it's like 15 degrees in here and I'm not wearing a shirt.

hey i just noticed this video on youtube, no idea if its been posted:

YouTube - GAME 2 - Part 1: Ashes Cricket 2009 - Xbox 360 Demo (Hard Mode) It has Bopara's bowling rating as 43! Below KP and Colly!

Haha oh okay, I hadn't seen it before so I wasn't sure. It was a great video, I was desperately looking for part 2 haha. Thanks for all your work man.

Haha oh yeah everyone on youtube is a prick though.

AI batting/pacing

With regard to the CPU pacing of their innings I have found that if you bowl a consistent line and length (and have the bowling marker in the yellow, whilst also stopping the bowling meter as near to perfect as possible) the AI batsmen will almost always defend or leave. Only when experimenting with different line and lengths and stopping the bowling meter early did I find the AI batsmen started spanking me all over the pitch.
I do not think that the CPU are aware it is a 3 over match at all. By following my original way of bowling, above, I can regulaly keep them to around 10 runs or less in their 3 overs, whether they are batting first or second.
This is why I don't think they are aware it's a 3 over match as, even when chasing a total, they do not become overly aggressive as long as you bowl consistently well.
If this is how the AI plays in test matches then it is very, very encouraging.

I'm sorry, but that seems very discouraging to me! As long as you get the ball in the right place, the batsmen usually leave or defend the ball? That'd be fine if it wasn't so easy to get the cursor in the right place, as I'd imagine it is? That means that the AI will never cut loose unless you start bowling absolute rubbish. In real cricket, even if the ball was a good one, they still get hit for four occasionally.

I think the reason for not giving not out was umpire thought it was run out appeal. Iam not sure if transmission people considered that case if ball hits the batsman and goes on to hit stumps.

As long as it doesn't happen too often, it doesn't matter too much. Otherwise, it'll get like the dismissals where the batsman kept leg glancing the ball onto their stumps.

I don't see why people are moaning about BLC 99 ambient sounds. They were brilliant!

BLIC '99 ambience + crowd chants = perfect cricket atmosphere.

Apart from plantCricket the feedback has been Poor tbh.

I didnt call it to be a major flaw but its one of these things u would like to see. For eg, u dont want a side foot shot curling outside in football games do u?

When ppl here want to see after match presentation, correction of elbow pads etc, there is nothing wrong in asking for real time ball movement. Each to their own i guess.

Well, if the ball curls a different way than it was supposed to, it'll determine whether there is a goal, or if the ball reaches its intended target. If the ball in cricket goes backwards/forwards/up/down/left/right after bowling someone, it doesn't matter in the slightest: the guy is still out! Not a good comparison.

As to the 'poor' feedback from some people not from this forum, maybe they were the sheep who liked BLIC 07's baseball style, as opposed to this game's realistic looking cricket style? Some links would be good.

pc demo will be out on 30 july 09

Official source?

I thought the crowd looked okay from the videos, you could see a lady standing up and clapping after a boundary and it looked really good.

I agree, I like the crowd.

Having played demo to death I think we are going to have a good cricket game at last.

Have noticed that the weather and conditions do affect bounce and swing.

We have been told there is more camera angles and bowlers speeds are fixed.
I hope the ps3 version is a touch brighter to see the ball in the field.

The loopy bounce has gone , would like to see 90 mph coming through a bit quicker , but that might happen on dryer wickets .

There is a lot to be positive about ac9 and lets remember this is just a early demo of 3 overs game , I am sure there is lot more in the full game for us all to see.

Excellent stuff!

You are right. I haven't check whole thread but I still needs to get my hands on PC demo to make any decision. People should realize that this is only try to make best cricket game so as developer said to make PES 6 we need to make PES 1st;)

Indeed. Rome wasn't built in a day.

And when this game gets to PES 6's level and then starts going down the toilet, especially in PES 09, we can stop buying it and just keep updating the last 'good' version... :D
