Review Demo impressions thread

Only had 1 option, chose test match and Normal I believe was the choice. Didn't bother playing a second time.

Hmmmm. I play predominatly on hard and find you really, really have to play yourself in and only then, can you start disecting the field on a regular basis. Even then you quite often misstime shots and end up scuffing them to the infield.

Also, encoragingly, even when you smack a shot that says 'perfect' in the batting meter it doesn't necessarily go to the boundary.

I think you may just like the game on hard mode and with the expander. Give it a go mate. This game has real potential and I'd hate the thought of someone denying themselves a good cricket game just because of a crappy demo experience.

EDIT: I've just remembered a previewer saying that the in the latest build they played, batting on hard was even more difficult than in the demo. Good stuff.

One thing you probably need to know about me, is I am stubborn beyond belief and will stick to my guns. I will not pay money for this game, no matter how good it is now. Nobody can change my mind.

Kev is right, 3 overs is pathetic. Terrible PR from Codemasters really. Would it be so hard to give us one session of a match situation? 100 runs to get, 3 wickets left, with one set batsman, would be much better.

thats fine, as long as you form your final opinion after playing the full game and not a demo.

10 overs would have been enough for me. 3 is just beyond description without triggering the swear filter several times over.

Kev added 2 Minutes and 6 Seconds later...

Sorry, that is what a demo is for

I just feel you are missing out if you form such a harsh opinion after 3 overs on a demo. The demo is not the final build and 3 overs is hardly enough time to form an opinion (especially when you only played it once).

Online play will be a different experience as well

Another mistake. The demo should be the final build. Only shooting themselves in the foot otherwise.

Sure it should be, but it is not. So for all we know , the AI is better and bugs removed.

Agreed - a demo should always be representative of the final game.

That's what the previews say. The ones that are previewing the game are saying it's tougher and the ones previewing the demo mention the AI running bug.

A demo can never be wholly representative of the final product unless it comes out after release of the full game.

Developers work on the game right up until going 'gold' and this can be as little as a month or so before release.

Demo's need to be specially made for our consumption which takes lots of valuable time.

No comapny will allocate valuable development time away from the final few weeks of crunching in order to bring out a more 'polished' demo, this is why demos are almost always early builds of games.

There just isn't enough time to completely finish a game and then make a special demo in time for it to hit before release date of the actual game.

can some one please tel me how to download the demo for pc and also coud you please tell me if you need to downoad the original demo and the expander demo or can you just download the expander straight away and also how do you download it do you need something specific on your computer to download it thanks cheers??

We got a demo a week before release. As you say, they probably mastered about the 1st week of July. That's ample time to put together a demo of the final build.

Anyway, time shouldn't come in to it. If you have to wait until after release to put out a demo of the final product then do it, you don't try and sell a product, which may be worse than the final version. It's simple business knowledge.

Oh, I know what the game is like. I can also compare it to the demo. But it makes no odds to anything I've mentioned. The demo has been a poor marketing exercise by Codies.

Honestly what is the point of a demo that isn't final release. It's like going to a Ford garage for a test drive, you are happily on a test drive when all the wheels fall off and the engine catches fire. Then the rep says "it's not the final version of the car, on the final version the wheels will stay attached an you don't need a direct line to the emergency services". If you test drove a Ford like that, you'd walk down the road to the Vauxhall garage wouldn't you?
