The best way to learn new things is to try out your own ideas. Experiment new designs and textures. Visualize how it would look, and then go ahead. It'll help you.

I am not that good at graphics, but its just an advice.

The signature looks good. If you would have brought the text "Dirk" a bit closer to "Kuyt" and also reduced the size a bit, then it would be perfect!
