Don Bradman Cricket 14 - first impressions thread

OMG!

So I turned off the commentary, was getting a bit tiresome, bumped up all the sonics and... SOUND GUY, TAKE A F'N BOW. So the "ground announcement" sound, that's not pre-packaged shit. He actually NARRATES whats going on in the match at the end of each over. "The end of the over, 134 for 3" etc etc.

BRAVO @BigAntStudios. BRA F'N VO.

Yeah I love that PA Announcer guy. That was a quality addition.

This is and this will be one of the best cricket game of all time.
I always think this is a bit of a backhanded compliment, even if you didn't mean it as that. I've never got more than a couple of days enjoyment out of previous games (strongly disliked almost all of them to be honest) so if this isn't the best cricket game of all time I'd be disappointed. "One of the best" seems to put it in the top 3 or 5, and there haven't been anywhere near enough half-decent cricket games for it not to be the best.

First off, this is the best cricket game I have ever played. Well done to @BigAntStudios and the team! Something my friend said while playing, was that you can really see the developers love cricket.

I couldn't find a suggestions thread so I'm just going to post it here:
Fielding -Use the right analog to dive. If you flick the analogue in the opposite direction than what you are running, this would cause the fielder to slide.
Scorecard - Show the scorecard at the end of the over. If it can skip by a button it shouldn't become irritating.
Also could the bowling strike rate be added to the scorecard?
Fielding positions - I think a lot of people have asked for a radar display. This would be helpful, but if this is not something that you want to add to to the style you are going for then maybe add something to see the fielders on the boundary easier. Sometimes the clothes they wear blends into the crowd. Maybe an icon above each fielder's head?
For appealing - Instead of pressing up on the Dpad, I think it will feel more natural if you press up on both analogues. Like throwing your arms in the air. So a quick flick would be a 'How was that' and holding it up would be a more excited appeal. And also if you go up for an appeal and you flick down on one, it would cause a stifled appeal.

Anyone experienced edges caught behind or bowled when attempting to play a block shot? I've only experienced caught behind off playing an aggressive stroke with the AI bowling at you......

Always a test for the realism of a cricket game. Hopefully ball moves around enough to catch the edge when trying to play conservatively.

That has happened to me on numerous occasions!! Specially on PRO difficulty level.

As per my opinion the game has best approach to see the fielding positions (L2+R stick). I do not think that any radar or field map is required to find fielders. Also negates the environment and realism created by the game.
However the execution can be little bit tweaked to see all the fielders clearly. One way I could think of is to increase the height of this camera little bit. May be it can be checked in dev environment @BigAntStudios .

Yeah, I often find myself appealing just because I think: "That's a bloody good ball, surely that deserves a wicket!" Then when they defend it, sweep it or whatever I think: "Shit he actually hit it! But it was such a good ball that it deserved a wicket..." So that little self doubt means my thumb is already firmly pressing that D pad, and I'm pressing random buttons in rage that I can't cancel an appeal. Then the commentator chucks in a "What's he appealing for there?" just to rub it in my face. Talk about embarrassment. And a little part of me starts worrying about Ross' comment that the more you appeal the less leniency there will be with dismissals. And I am still thinking to myself: "But it was a bloody good ball!" First world problems :noway

I'm really started to wonder at the lack of AI edges to the keeper or slips (they happen, but very rarely) and it seems the issue is that they just don't seem to play at balls outside off properly. They either try to destroy the ball or play a completely inappropriate shot. The net result is two things, they rarely even edge anything, and they tend to be bowled by delivers that they should be capable of defending more often than not.

The other side of the coin is the AI fielding. What on Earth is going on? The laser guided missiles they can throw from the outfield are absolutely ridiculous. Yes, sometimes poor running results in a run out, but not ever single poor run ever. The accuracy of the throws (both human and AI) needs to be dropped by a lot. The other issue that comes along with this is just telling them to throw at the stumps is generally the best option as they hit far more often than not. There is no risk reward in that case, it's just all reward.

I completely disagree with you on this as half of my wickets I am getting are edges to keeper or slips. I think you are not appealing to the nicks. You need very keen ears to hear those edges. Once you hear , Appeal mate! :thumbs

for what it's worth; Witnessed stacks of AI edges tonight while I was notching up another 30 or two... Great diving take from the keeper too...

I get quite a few keeper catches, playing as a leggie though.

In cricket game genre, Cricket 97 ATE and BLC-99 are the previous best I've played and they are the best in their respective era.

DBC14 will be at top of my list along with those two.
