West Indies: Bravo, Pollard turn down WICB contracts | West Indies Cricket News | Cricinfo.com
Allrounders Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard have not accepted the one-year central contracts offered to them by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), ESPNcricinfo has learnt.

According to the Nation, 22 of the players have signed the contracts, while one wanted an extension and two indicated they would not accept.

It seems that they want to be free agents and roam around like Pollard did last year. WICB made it mandatory for the players to show up for WI domestic competitions in order to be selected for the national team.

Important to note that Sarwan and Jerome Taylor weren't offered central contracts because of their fitness or attitude towards fitness, same goes for Deonarine and Dowlin.
Denesh Ramdin wasn't offered a contract because he sucks. FINALLY.

They're both going to go around to different competitions before burning out, performing poorly and then go crawling back to the WICB.

I expect both of them to play for Trinidad & Tobago but for some reason they don't want this contract.
Losing Bravo would be much worse because he does play tests.

A few months ago Pollard was saying how he doesn't have a central contract and would love to represent the West Indies but now he rejects the contract.

It would be bad for West Indies if these players can still play outside of their national/domestic team and earn as much or more money (which they will). Its going to dilute the value of the national/domestic cap. Cant blame the players, its all about money, honey. The value of the national cap needs to increase.

This is a slap in the face. I think that that anyone who is 'too good' to accept a contract from the West Indies can keep walking. You don't need guys who are more concerned about themselves than their nation - I don't care how good they are. And it certainly seems Bravo thinks he's a lot better than he actually is. Pollard on the other hand has a lot of potential but needs to show he can actually stay at the wicket longer than 25 balls before he can be called a great player. But yeah, until they actually want to play for the Windies full time and not just when it suits them...stuff them. They'll be better off with team players and building a good, hard working atmosphere in the dressing room.

Yeah, I read that article some time ago.

The most important sentence (for the sake of West Indies) was this:

'The board also said at the time that those outside the contract list would still be able to represent West Indies.'

That means they will still be allowed to play for West Indies without a central contract.

Kieron Pollard is of little value to the West Indies though. He doesn't play test cricket, he's a terrible one day cricketer and he's never really peformed for the West Indies like he has domestically in international 20/20 cricket, as far as I'm concerned he's bloody lucky to have picked up an apparent $80,000 contract when instead it should have been a development contract for far less. It's no fault of the West Indies that domestic teams around the world pay him so much for doing so little.

It's a slap in the face for Dwayne Bravo imo however. Here we have a quality all rounder who has at least shown he's capable of playing quality cricket in all forms of the game during his career. Not only that but he's also your vice captain and you decide to pay someone who has done nothing at this level the same exact amount as him, disgrace.

I agree with Howsie. If indeed they were both offered the same amount of money then its not fair for Bravo. He plays all formats of the game and is much more valuable and has done much more at international level then Pollard.
There should have been 3 big contracts (not all the same amount) and they should have gone to Chanderpaul, Gayle and Bravo. Chanderpaul should have gotten the most followed by Gayle and Bravo.
I am interested in seeing who is the one person that asked for extra time.

It's worth remembering that the windies players put up with some right nonsense from the boards regarding their contract, also, I think the board have imposed some rather over-bearing clauses in these. You can't ask a player to turn down paid employment to doss about as a waterboy for a performance team, and it sounds like they'd do just that. given the money they're paying that's silly.

Pollard is exactly the type of player I was worried about when t20 started. I don't mind the technique issues, the IPL money, any of that. What I'm concerned about is that Pollard an internationally famous player that will probably never play tests.

It was Chris Gayle apparently Bravo turns down WICB retainer contract | RJR News

The worrying thing is that it seems playing Twenty20 cricket is more rewarding then playing ODI cricket or Test cricket.

Players would just go on to play one month of Twenty20 cricket and earn more money then a player, who has played all three formats in a year.

ICC really needs to invest in the Test scene and for example increase the financial rewards for players (through the cricket boards).
