We managed to have a chat with the owner. Excerpts.
On being an owner of the franchise in such a league..
It is an honor. I'm a passionate Cricket follower and love the game. To own a side like Sydney in this league, it feels great. You get to know so much more about these guys. That's a fabulous experience.
On the team squad..
I feel we have one of the balanced teams. If you see we have got the dangerous Warner at the top followed by two world class batsmen in Clarkey and Virat. We're looking to open with Stirling along with Warner. He's a young talent from Ireland and I'm excited to see him play. We have the finishers in Morgan and Shakib. Mind you, Shakib is the world #1 all rounder as well. Bowling is superb with Slinga Malinga, Hilfy, Nannes and the spin sensation Narine. I'm not sure about the number of overseas allowed in the XI as of yet. But, I hope they allow at least 5.
On other teams in the league..
In a five team league, you naturally expect each team to be competitive as the available talent for selection is huge. That's the same case here. All the teams look good. I won't pick a particular favorite of mine. Everyone need to go out on the field and perform. Whoever wins the league, is the best! Yeah, there is rivalry already heating up against Melbourne.
Melbourne what? But, I've informed the guys and our coach that we will be talking on the field and not in the press. Clarke isn't too worried about all this anyways and that's what matters.
On further involvement in the on field matters of the team..
I'll be pro active. Yes, I'll allow the management and the men who matter to make all the plans and strategies but, I'll be with the team during the matches. Player selection and stuff will be the duty of the coach and captain. But, if need be, I'll give my input surely whether or not they ask me, ha ha.
Final say..
I'd like to wish all the teams good luck. Hopefully, we gel well as a unit and produce the results. It was a pleasure.
