England in Australia

Giles look ok to be honest at times when he bowled.....But i agree, he has been in decline since at least 2004.....

I think Harmy will get another chance in Adaliade to be honest.

So far England is struggling a lot on a beautiful batting pitch. Somebody from England needs to score a century in this innings, otherwhile it's over for them.

But Sifter132, Monty is a young lad and that is his first 10 tests! Against India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan, three teams that generally play spin excellently. He also has 2 five-fers already. Considering that he has improved steadily since his first tests in India, he looks a very bright prospect indeed. Also two of those series were in England which are hardly the most spin conducive pitches in the world. So I think you should probably watch him bowl instead of trying to figure everything out by the numbers as though it's a computer game.

Throw into the equation that he has gotten Tendulkar, Dravid, Yousef, Jayawardene, Sangakarra among his scaps and he most definately looks a player that has a bright future.

Add to that Warne struggles against India and even his first test he had a shocker against them.
The wickets Monty has got really show his potential they are really big name players he got who are very good against spin and in Dravid/Yousuf case usually very hard to get out.

To be honest, two people need to make a century, and it would be nice if KP and Bell can go out, and get a 200 partnership, then Flintoff can come out and play his natural game, but England being England will collapse and we will be out for less than 150.

Can people just stfu about Monty Panesar and Giles. I think it's quite obvious that we all think Monty should be playing but it won't do any good.

If you want to bitch about bowlers, bitch about Harmison and his second slip wides like the newspapers are. The fast bowlers were terrible.

You compare the way McGrath, Lee and Clark bowled with the way Harmison, Hoggard and Anderson bowled. There is the major problem right there. The English bowlers are not in their class. Australia could give England 3 bowlers like Tait, Gillespie and Johnson who can't make the Aussie team but would all do better then H,H and A.

The Australian's are well prepared and the English arn't.

Giles isn't performing well, but that was the first innings. Who actually expects a spinner to be dominating on the first day of a test on a non-responsive? Not me! If the England bowlers don't buck up their ideas in their second bowling effort (if they get one which looks doubtful) then I would play Panesar and Giles!

Among the english fans, its quite a big topic between who the fans want to play, and who Duncan Fletcher wants to play. Yeah most people say Monty, but it doesnt stop us having a conversation about it does it? No....

And about our quicks, Jimmy and Hoggy had a good day, while Harmy is having a horid test, and i agree with an earlier comment, should we go out to bowl again, he will be bowling for his place IMO.

I really hope Bell can get some runs today and exorcise some demons of 2005. Even if we lose, we will need our batsmen to perform in the other 4 tests, and Bell getting some confidence against the Aussies will be crucial if he is to perform.

The game is about to start once again, this is perfect timing! starts at 7:00 here in the evening, and ends about 12:00.

EDIT: People lets discuss the game ball by ball in the chatroom, since it wouldn't be appropriate anywhere else

12 mins till the play starts for today. Sorry england supporters, I feel that today will only make the situation worse for you.

Well we've had two terrible days so we're due a better one although tbh even if we have a great day and only lose 2/3 wickets we're still heavy favourites to lose.

Barring a miracle, England have already lost this game so i'm looking for any kind of positives to take from it. I'd love Bell to get a confidence boosting 100 and i'd also like Flintoff and Jones to chip in with a few runs as well.

To put another slant on things, all England need is a partnership of 750 between these and then we can let Giles bundle Australia out on the final day. Piece of cake if you ask me. :)

Oh KP, what the hell is wrong with you?
Trying to hook a guy who's bowling mid 90's!
Just lucky Clarke misjudged the catch because that should have been out.
