England in Australia

Nice to see some objective opinions there Iron-Haggis :)

I could easily say Valvolux that without injuries we would have won in India or beaten Sri Lanka, but I haven't and we didn't. We had our chances to beat Sri Lanka, around 20 of them, and unfortunately dropped them all in one of the strangest test matches I have ever witnessed. The result in India was a good effort, and a massive positive was that we were on top for most of the sessions. Pakistan outplayed us in Pakistan and that's full credit to them for some very good cricket on their part.

By the same token we fully deserved our 2-0 (3-0 officially) series win over them at home.

Don't get the wrong idea puddleduck. My post was pointing out how ridiculous Valvolux's comment was that India in India are mediocre oppositon. Not that England are any good at cricket :p

Honestly I think England have done well considering their injury problems. Seems to have settled in time for the Ashes. I can't see them winning, but I think they will be very competitive.

Australia also better win because I'm in England until just before Christmas and I need Australia to do well so I can make fun of all the English :laugh

Injuries is no excuse for the upcoming Ashes. They only have Vaughan and Jones out. They should have enough depth to be able to adequately cover them, like Australia does.

One thing i've taken note of in the Champions Trophy is how ineffective McGrath looks when batsmen go after him straight away. Now i'm in no way critiscizing him, but if our batsman try to go after McGrath before he settles, then we could have some success.

Wasnt McGraths stats like 5 overs 2-4 after his first 2?

I said, "When batsmen go after him from the start". Now your metnioning something that i'm not talking about.

Can I slap you with a wet trout?

I'll take Ponting and Lee out of your line up then shall I?

valvolux the tampering issue happened in the last test when it was already 3-0 so how could it have been 2-1 were it not for the tampering issue? And we haven't been playing crap in Tests in the last 3 test series. India mediocre at home? :brickwall

I'm probably misunderstanding you, but we were only 2-0 up before the final Test Sureshot. Draw at Lords and wins at OT and Headingley.

we would still win the ashes without them both.

Funny that because I am pretty sure you lost them with them both :p

Yeah but England losing Vaughan & Jones hurts them more then it would Australia if they lost Ponting & Lee. Ponting would be a blow but Hussey is in as good a form as Ponting is, possibly even better and Lee wouldn't hurt Australia much at all I wouldn't think because then you could play Watson and even MacGil.

You just figured that out now? You don't have to be Einstein to figure that out, it's been said a million times, you have to attack McGrath to unsettle him. But there in lies your problem, with his line and length if you attack him you play into his hands. The Kiwis a few years back just keep leaving him alone especially Richardson and attacked the bowler at the other end. It gave them a tied test series with a game where they could have won.

What's Huss got to do with it? Ponting gets injured, Clarke comes in and contributes bugger all- Vaughan goes out and gets replaced by a better batsman.

Watson should be playing anyway as a better batsman than our other options. If Lee gets injured he gets replaced by MacGill or one of Bracken/Clarke/Tait and co, on the basis that the selectors would alreadly have their love child Johnson in the team. A bowling attack of McGrath Johnson Watson Warne and MacGill gives you a bloke that hasn't played Test cricket for the best part of a year, one that hasn't done anything in his career and a batting all rounder as a pace attack- unless you're planning to doctor every pitch to be a raging turner, something we don't do, I wouldn't have an overwhelming amount of faith.

Yeah but England losing Vaughan & Jones hurts them more then it would Australia if they lost Ponting & Lee.
Doubt it
