England In India - October 2011/12

India will face hard time after the Big 3 retires.
I would love to see
Pujara for Dravid
Rohit for Sachin and
Badri for Laxman

There are plenty of talents in India but need to be given chance very soon otherwise we will be like Australian soon.

Opening Slot: Gambhir, Mukund, Murli Vijay.

Gambhir still has plenty of cricket left in him. Even though Mukund struggled against short stuff in 2nd test, he still looks good to me for future. Good enough technique to cover up. Murli Vijay is not consistent at all. Even though having a strong record at domestic cricket, he faILED to impress at International level. Still I think he is there for future but needs to more consistent.

Middle Order: Pujara, Rohit, Badri, Kohli, Raina, Yuvi, Rahane, Pandey, M. Tiwary, S.Tiwary, Raydu.

As I said earlier; Pujara, Rohit and Badri in my opinion are ideal choice to replace the big 3. Yuvi is good for test as he provides the left arm spinning option. I am not so sure about Raina though. After seen him struggling so much against short stuff, I don't think he will be good for test. Would love to see some youngster sneaking in place of him or they c an try Kohli in his place.

Wicket Keeper: Dhoni, Parthiv, Karthik, Saha

Dhoni is good enough to handle this job

Spinners: Bhajji, Mishra, Ojha, Ashwin, Iqbal, Rahil Sharma, Bhargav Bhatt

Seeing Bhajji struggle this much is just sad. Really want him to be more attacking, as he was in early 2000's. Can't really understand why he straight away goes round the stump whenever he got the ball.
Mishra can be good but needs more practice.

Fast bowlers: Ishant, Praveen, Sreesanth, Umesh Yadav, Varun Aaron, Vinay Kumar, RP Singh, Unadkat, Irfan

Ishant, Umesh and Varun and RP they all can touch or bowl over 140+ if fit enough.
Sreesanth needs to be more consistent for sure
Unadkat, Vinay Kumar, Pathan and Praveen are all good but they don't have enough pace to trouble the batsman.

So overall it can be a good Indian team even after big 3 retires but needs to given chance to these players so they can understand the difference between domestic and International cricket. Hopefully they will and we will have a good Indian team for future.

I'm not doubting that England could (potentially) be the number one team in the world (will hold my judgement for another 2 years as I did for India) right now, but your argument is fundamentally flawed, Haarithan. England has played way more matches against those teams than India has and there are obviously more teams in world cricket. You can't just cherry pick stats. Just look at the Pakistan stats in your argument. It's beyond ridiculous to compare 3-1 (H) and 'NYP' to India's non-existent record against Pakistan.

Yep fair enough. Its just that I gave Sobi a taste of his own medicine by proving England to be a much better 'away' side over the last 2 years than India, for him to stop posting crap like 'England get killed away from home, blah blah blah...' in the future.

Don't blame us for your political problems with Pakistan. It's not our fault you're not playing Pakistan, although Sobi would probably think so.

???

Where did I say anything about that?? I said that Haarithan's argument is flawed because he's comparing England's record vs Pakistan to India's non-existent record vs Pakistan. That isn't even an argument.

That is not a very good comment and it shows insensitivity to people who died in the 26/11 terrorist attack on Mumbai . After all English players were also their and would it have been "your" problem if something awful might have happened to any of the English players ? thankfully nothing happened to them.

Your political problems go a lot further back than that tragic day but anyway, I'm bored of Pakistan being discussed in this thread.

It was insensitive of me, I apologise.

Murali Vijay does not deserve to be in the Indian team. Any more talk about him is a complete waste of time.

Totally agree with you on this, very poor shot selection, needs to improve a lot before getting selected.

Harbhajan's slide had begun quite a while ago . With England tour it is complete. But I have no doubt he will be back in the Indian team in some time (not in a good way , I mean )
:noway He is not performing since long, don't want to see him again, hope he plays a lot of domestic cricket before he gets selected again.

Things are good in the spin department for India. Ojha,Mishra,Iqbal Abdulla,Ashwin.

Yap, we have atleast 5 spinners who have the potential,
but the current selectors are crap:facepalm they won't groom them properly.
Hope some deserving ex cricketers become selectors.

We have a large pool of players with lots of potential, but the current management has to be changed, bunch of jokers who have created a lot of problems for team India for long term.

For tests, we can go for Rahane, Mukund, Pandey, Manoj Tiwary and Badrinath.
In bowlers, there should be a rotation between, Praveen Kumar, V Aroon, U Yadav, Sreesanth, Ishant Sharma, Zaheer, Vinay Kumar,Shrikant Wagh (u must be surprised, but just see him bowl and you will agree).
Unadkat is also a good future prospect for ODIs, his is not too fast, but can bowl tight lines with a lot of variations. Others should be rotated according to the teams needs in different formats.

And of course we need an all rounder so that we can have 5 bowlers,
Irfan Pathan, Iqbal Abdulla and Ravindra Jadeja(Jadeja didn't get a fair chance, was very handy with the ball and his batting was wasted at number 7) can be good for stabilizing the team, 1 of them should be in the playing 11 to sort out our bowling problems. We nned to go with 4 bowlers and 1 allrounder.

Raina should quit test cricket:yes because we don't want a player who cannot play difficult bowlers.
Harbhajan should stay away from the team for a while.

Hope the selectors would have taken a bold decision by picking some aggressive batsmen for the ODIs.
Don't know why they are always taking defensive moves, they are pulling the team back.
Wanted to see Yusuf or Uthappa in the team, Yusuf played so well in South Africa, Yusuf could have clicked in 1 or 2 games but he would have given it back to the bowlers instead of playing negative cricket.
We have so many players who can anchor the innings in ODIs, Gambhir, Kohli, Dhoni and Sachin, picking Dravid is not a great move, if Dravid is picked, he should be in for either Gambhir or Kohli.
We need some impact players who can turn the game around, too many defensive players will not be a great option.

don't you think we can have Waseem Jaffer as an opener in Test team.he have a decent test record.

I think Zaheer can still play for India atleast for 2 more years. His replacement in Indian team is too difficult to find.Laxmi Balaji is a very good option but he might also be of same age as Zaheer.Praveen don't have much ability to swing the ball to Left handers,he needs to play some county cricket before securing his safe place in Indian team.We need to have a good fast bowler,Sreesanth is really annoying and Ishant still needs to improve on some areas.

Only issue is they're all kinda raw with the bat. Not exactly fit to bat at 7. Jadeja is the best bet IMO, but he needs to develop a bit more.

I would like to see Jadeja in the Test setup. Definitely. I think he has it in him to bat at 7 for India, pushing MSD up to 8 and having 1/2 bowlers who can bat a bit after that.

Not looking for an apology .

IT's OK .

I don't think Dravid expected to be picked for the ODI's. No wonder he announced his retirement from ODI's.

:D

I never really got the criticism towards Jadeja. He seemed a really talented player. He had patience of a player beyond his age and experience and wasn't all smash and bash. Was it just because he wasn't suited to limited overs cricket?

Not calling up Jaffar who was already in England when Gambhir was injured kind of surprised me. By forcing Dravid to open they disturbed the batting line up.
:noway
And Shreesanth is consistently inconsistent. Yet he gets picked hoping he would perform at some point in time .

:facepalm

He had his chances. There were some ODI's where he had a lot of overs to build an innings . But he could not grab the opportunity . Dhoni drew a lot of flak because of Jadeja.

It would not be a good idea to get bits and pieces players for test cricket. I think England were making the same mistake few years back . MSD at 7 is perfect followed by four specialist bowlers who should be a decent bat too.
