England Lions tour of Bangladesh Jan-Feb 2011/12

Batting at 6 and scoring runs, get him in the ODI side. I'm delighted they didn't send Patel in above him for once.

On that though, I don't think he'll make it as a keeper in International cricket, at least not at the moment, he's not quite good enough for me. But he doesn't need to be, because with the bat he is incredible.

Buttler and Kieswetter scored 106 runs off 12.2 overs. It's like taking a little bit of Somerset to Sri Lanka. :D

Just worked it out as well and realised that he and Patel scored 56 runs off 3.5 overs with Patel making 5 from 7. That's worth another :D

He's been the best performer with the bat on this tour, I fully expect him to be promoted to the senior ODI side this year, the only issue would be where to put him in the line up.
I'd love to see him open, he's done it for somerset in T20 and one day games and performs just as good, but he would probably go in at 6 or 7 in the ODI team

You still talking about Buttler? If so, he's never opened as far as I can remember.

His best position is 5 or 6. If you look at his List A record, he's been unbeaten lots of times, because he's good at guiding a run chase. I think the best thing about him is his mindset for me. He's got that nature of someone who doesn't panic when the pressure is on and backs his own ability. He'd be ideal at 6 for England, just behind Morgan and in front of a bowling all-rounder at 7.

He's an absolute run machine and should have been in the ODI setup wayyy back.

Wayyy back? When he's been playing professional cricket for 2 years?

Give him a chance, I think he's worth a shot, but be realistic in expectations. There's a big difference in hitting A team an county bowlers around and hitting the likes of Ajmal and Gul around the park.

Completely agree on the above with MUFC, #6 with the all-rounder at 7 (whoever that will be with Bresnan injured).

Tell you what, like the firepower in that Lions side. Hales, Bairstow, Kieswetter and Buttler!

I think I said on these forums at the end of last year, that yes, Buttler had had a great year, but like Sureshot said, it was just one year. But he's come back in 2011 and had just as good a year, if not better in limited overs cricket. The guy's average and strike rate are simply crazy. I think England are missing out if he's not in the squad straight away. I mean, it's not as if there's a number of performing guys in his way. Bairstow didn't really take his chance, so the slots there for the taking.

A century for Kieswetter today, and more runs for Buttler, as is the norm now.

I would have both of them in the England T20 and ODI team now, i know Keiswetter has been a bit hit and miss in his international career, but hes still young, and he really is a match winner on his day.
And Buttler HAS to be in the T20 and ODI team, he is the most outstanding one day player in domestic competition, and he is now having a great tour in sub continent conditions with the lions

Buttlers tour so far - 7 matches, 303 runs, avg 75.75, strike rate 106.69.
Not a bad tour for him, really giving the selectors something to think about for the games against Pakistan

also, Bangledesh win the series against the lions 3-2 (but if you include the "tour match" between the two same teams its 3-3), but the lions have destroyed Sri Lanka A in both games with the bat, is this a sign that Bangledesh will be a stronger team in the next few years than Sri Lanka?
I know there have been a couple of additions to the lions team for the Sri Lanka game, but they have really outplayed them

And more wickets for Briggs and Buck! Two best bowers on this tour so far by a distance, but not for Woakes and Dernbach, bit of a worry for Dernbach as he may fall out of favor with the selectors if he doesn't get some wickets in the next 4 matches, with Woakes its not too much of a worry as this tour is all about him coming back from injury and getting bowling fit so he may be considered for the one day games for the seniors against Pakistan

Yeah, Buttler had one of his bad days on tour today, only making 40. :D

On Kieswetter though, he did well today because he got time to build his innings, which is what happens at Somerset. England seem to want him to be aggressive from ball one, which isn't quite his natural game. I've always felt he's the most natural replacement we have for KP in the middle order too, interesting to see him doing so well there for the Lions.

I'd love to see Briggs in the senior squad too. He should be the second spinner behind Swann in both forms of the shorter game. Always seems to do well taking wickets, but even when he doesn't, he seems to very rarely get hammered for plenty.

Briggs has massively outperformed Borthwick on this tour which im a little surprised by, I quite like Borthwick and has always bowled well when ive seen him even if he doesn't take a wicket.

I think Borthwick has got great potential, but I think he just has a bit less control than Briggs, which is natural from a young leg spinner as opposed to a finger spinner. Briggs seems to be really consistent at hitting a spot, even if he's not turning it much. Which works well for One Day cricket, but not so much in Tests.

Dernbach should be nowhere near any England teams at the moment. He's been absolutely terrible, I just don't get why people like him.

Agreed, a good county level bowler, but have no confidence in him at international level, bowls 5 slow balls an over, yeah that's different to what other bowlers are doing, but different doesn't always mean better

He pretty much bowls all over the place with no consistency or with any kind of control, leaks runs, and doesn't actually take that many wickets.

Not to mention he can't really bat or field particularly brilliantly to make up for the fact that he's a bit of a one trick pony.

Another day and yet more runs for Buttler. Batting at 4 today and another century for him. Just a shame the rest of the order didn't turn up really. Sits at 2-1 to the Lions now though, so should make for an interesting last couple of games.

I think Buttler just needs to finish off this tour with a good innings against the senior team in the last game and he will be given his chance, thats how Keiswetter got into the team, and Buttlers on far better form than he was then
