Test Match:
England Vs Bangladesh:
Pre Match Hype:

England will put up an experimental squad today, trying out some different batting positions for players and adding some new ones to the squad, Bangladesh will not go down without putting up a fight so expect a tough test, Englands bowling attack looks ready and rearing to go with Matthew Hoggard given the nod allongside Steve Harmison and Jimmy Anderson. There batting comes in the form of Michael Vaughan who will reclaim his place at the top of the order allongside Marcus Trescothick. England will be looking for a big win going into the "real" Tests.

Bangladesh win the toss and decide to have bowl:

The pitch here at Dhaka looks in prime condition:

Bangladesh post a full side:

The England lineup:

The only real additions to the England sqaud being Rob Key and Jimmy Anderson, other than that its just a sort round, Micheal Vaughan leads from the front while Thorpe comes in at number 3, Key gives them some healthy options in the lower order, especially is hes in with Strauss and Flintoff is the ever present danger. Just the one main spinner included today, Ashley Giles, in the form of his life and looking to continue, Backup Keeper Chris Read will be starting in the Touring Matches to see how he goes but for now they stick with dependable Geraint Jones. The bowling attack is strong and fast with Flintoff acting as backup and Vaughan a 2nd spinner is needed.

no idea mate, England have made a steady start to the innings, will post a lunch update sometime soon. P.S my South Africa diary is now closed...

Test Match Sponsored by Cable and Wireless:
England Vs Bangladesh:
Day 1:
Lunch:

England:
136/0

Vaughan: 74*
Trescothick: 49*

England have punished the Bangladeshi bowlers for poor lines and bad bals throughout the first part of the day and have racked up a big score without losing a wicket which, to be honest, never looks like happening, the fielding has been slow and misfields are common, credit where credit is due though, Englands batsmen have looked comfortable and have been playing there shots well. Bangladesh have no chance in this match if they carry on the way they are going, they need some fast wickets from the top order and will have to work hard against the England pace attack to score some.

Vaughan smashes one back down the ground on his way to a big score.

Vaughan sweeps for his 50.

Trescothick skips down the pitch and whacks it past the covers for a boundary.

Vaughan brought up his fifty in style, sweeping the spinner away down to fine leg for four, he has batted superbly and really looks good in that opening spot again. He has been partnered by Marcus Trescothick who for the most part has been picking off the runs, ones and twos with a few boundarys. Both players should go on to make big scores but must keep there wickets in tact which shouldnt be to hard. It is fantastic practice and will be a good help to them if they have some runs under there belt going into the matches with India and Paskistan.

England have plenty of depth in there batting lineup and will probrably look to declare at the start of day 2 a few overs before lunch. There main bowling attack will consist of Steve Harmison and Matthew Hoggard who will be backed up by Anderson and Flintoff. The Spinners will also play a big part and Ashley Giles will be relishing his chance to shine.

Test Match Sponsored by Cable and Wireless:
England Vs Bangladesh:
Day 1:
Tea:

England: 195/1

Vaughan:
103*
Thorpe: 24*

England didnt score many runs in this session, mainly due to the fact that they scored so many earlier on, they were aiming to get around a hundred per session and are on track with that so far reaching a very good 195 for just 1 wicket. That wicket came a bit late for Bangladesh, by that time the game had run away from them a bit. Trescothick stole two runs to bring up his 50 and them got ran out next ball after starting of on a run that just wasnt there, by the time he had turned back to return to his crease the bails were off the he was forced to walk. He would have liked to get a few more runs behind him before the serious matches start but a half century will have to do.

Umpire Steve Bucknor signals another four runs.

Vaughan reches his 100 in style after a well struck on drive for four.

The captain really has pelted all sides of the field on his way to a century.
Cricket20042004-10-1009-34-19-93.jpg

Michael Vaughan is one of the players in the England squad who had been lacking in confidence lately and needed somthing to get him back on course, this just may be it, the England Captain has stroked the balls aroun the park with ease and reched his 100 with a fantastic four back down the ground at a strike rate of just over 50. Throughout his innings he has been a mature player that looked world class, you could say the Michael Vaughan of old has returned, still not yet at his best but at least he has something to build on going into the India and Pakistan tests and what better to build on than a Century in your first match of the tour.

Graham Thorpe has been partnering Vaughan at the crease for a while now and looks set for a big score too, these two men have batted together inumeral times before and know each others games inside out, Bangladesh need to break this partnership before it flourishes or they face one hell of a beating from the England boys.
