There are a number of files that can be inserted into the data/bats directory to replace certain gfx files in the game.

In order to get an inserted tga file to work, one presumeably needs to know the dimensions and shape of the file. Some of them are extracted as png files when you use MultiEx so it should be fairly easy to do things such as have a red duck etc.
This might hopefully be the key to editing the interface files...
