Review: First Impressions of DB14 on PC

Purchased, downloaded and played for about 30 minutes yesterday.
I think the best decision BA have taken is to move away from traditional controls , this makes the game solid and realistic .

Played a T20 between KKR and MI.
Simulated the first Innings for KKR to reach 162/6 ( Very Realistic )

While chasing i collapsed from 39/0 (4) to 53 All out . The game, just like real cricket does not let you loose concentration at all. The pressure you feel while wickets tumble is amazing. Can't wait to play more.

Bdw, i am unable to judge distance between the fielder and ball from the camera i am using. Any suggestions?

I played a lot on ps3 and managed to take wickets of AI at veteran and pro level in tests and odis. But..

I simply cant take AI's wicket in test match ( Pro level ) . I bowled 45 overs. They scored 153/0.

How to take wickets in patch 2 ?

I had the same problem, no edges was the only headache as i have never seen AI bat so smart in a cricket game before. Amazing stuff Bigant, just need more edges to slips. I don't care if they get dropped sometimes or go though the slips gully area. 0/175 for me is fine and i did get lots of play and miss and almost bowled/ hit in the air but away from the fielders.

PS Still exciting and bowling feels so good, i had a AI score 56 not out of 165 and the other guy got 106 of 198. Spot on Bigant just need the slips to come into play more.

On Rookie and Amateur field positions do not move based on where you're hitting the ball.

Pro and up do.

Great that answers my question as well regarding AI not putting someone at long off/on area due to me hitting there all the time.

Is there perhaps a description of what the certain difficulty levels enable/disable?

As a bowler i used to get more swing before patch 2, Here i am not getting swing. Not getting any wickets. Its 60 overs 210/0 .

Hi Ross.

Quick question for you. I have purchased PC version aswell. Lot smoother than PS3, like it much better.

I see that in the PC version we have the option to view "Big Eye" in the BARS menu.

In addition to this is there any possibility of having Big Ant's equivilent to Hot Spot as an option aswell.

The Graphics in the game are great however we hardly ever get to see them during normal game play.

Cheers

How do you find out what fpm the game is playing on pc and whats a decent fpm performance

Download FRAPS. Run it & minimize it and Start the game, the FPS should show up at the top left corner.

all i can say after playing at pro level that it is the best cricket game ever although i got all out for only 21 runs in my first match, yes it still is the best game.....................................

cricket is a religion in INDIA and many of my country mates will miss out on this game bcz the price is so high...........

CODEMASTERS sold ASHES CRICKET 2009 for rs 500 in INDIA may be next big ant game will be cheaper than this...........

To be clear, neither the developer or publisher set the price you see in the shops. Yes they influence it (as the price the stores sell it for are influenced by the price they can buy it for) but they don't directly set it.

I don't think AC09 was sold in India at rs 500 at launch. By the time the shop had taken a cut, the taxes been paid (and even before you consider the cost of making the package and contents including the game itself) you would be selling it a loss. Plus it would be able to be exported to other countries at that price.

It would be, to be frank, madness.

It was.

I can only assume absolute market failure, if the low price and high volume model worked, it wouldn't have been the last cricket game to try that.

Wow. Not sure which distributor took THAT bath. The console versions are probably barely breaking even at that price and the PC version you're probably losing a few pounds per unit.

Maybe that explains the sales numbers (and the lack of an IC10 PC)...

I found this also and the reason for this is the AI bowl to many short balls, sometimes the full over. The way to get around it is don't play the pull shot but like others it's one of the better shots in the game, i do wonder what others think about this as patch one was to easy to pull and patch two to hard.

PS I also had the AI drop me there like 6 times in a inns, almost as bad as the bowler.:spy

Are the pull/hook shots acting differently than they do on consoles? On ps3 most of the pull/hook shots go along the ground unless you mistime the shot by being too early or unless you press the L2 (aggressive shot) modifier. Is the PC version different for playing hook/pull shots? If yes, are there any other shots which seem to be working differently on PC compared to consoles?

The leg glance is spot on and still can get you and other shots feel the same, the cut also goes in the air more but as i still play more on the legside this is not a problem. In patch one i played maybe 90% on leg and now maybe 75%, i would love to see offside used around 50% each or when they get tired slip down leg.

Cricket-online i am shocked you don't have PC version.

PS Also you hit less 4s now and more running, spot on here and yes the pull shot is dangerous now.

One thing I'd really appreciate is a call from my partner on the obvious runs when I'm the non striker.

I'm using pro cam for batting and running, but you can't follow the ball that well so I'm having to be conservative on calls to avoid being run out.

I could use a different camera for running but it breaks the immersion for me. It looks and feels way more like real cricket with the camera in first person throughout.

The AI must be there to work out where there's an easy run, and your partner already calls "wait" quite a bit (though annoyingly not just when the ball goes straight at a fielder). If they would just call "yes" (but still waiting for my button press to actually do anything) when the ball clearly beats the field that would be really handy, and additional calls for 2 or 3 would be awesome.

Alternatively if I had head control on an analog stick while running so I could track the ball, or if the head tracked the ball automatically, that would also work. IIRC the cricket 2004 first person cam tracked the ball automatically.

As it turns out, batting in a heavily modded Cricket 2004 with first person camera felt similar to DBC in a lot of ways. I think I was the only person in the universe who played 2004 that way though.

Just scored my maiden hundred, in fact two-hundred in Pro-40. :D Playing on Rookie is getting a lot easier now and it's understood that until I try to play PRO, I wont get the real feel of the game. But as TJ says, the calls from the striker for runs is very appreciable. I've only batted so far and from what I've heard so far, bowling in this game is a whole different experience altogether - I sure will try it out.
