BBC Sport - Cricket - Vaughan wants Stuart Broad as England one-day captain

"England since 1992 have done very badly in one-day cricket," the former Yorkshire batsman added. "The last four or five captains have all been batsman and back to 1992 under Graham Gooch.
"I've always gone on gut feelings and I think England may just favour going with someone who maybe not many people have thought of.
"Broad wouldn't be a massive gamble. Cook wouldn't let England down, he'd be a decent captain - but I think the England side might grow under someone like Broad."

All makes sense except for the fact that he's only 24 and is yet to be tested as captain at county level . I feel an in-form Anderson or Alastair Cook is the right way to go .

I would start again from scratch, go with a completely separate ODI squad as I've said elsewhere.

While a cause and effect relationship is being allued to between batsmen captains and a failure in ODIs, was not our captain in 1979 (Brearley), 1987 (Gatting) and 1992 (Gooch) a batsman when we reached the World Cup final on THREE separate occaisions...................?!?!? Cricket has changed dramatically since 1992, our approach to it has not (adapted), that's the key factor. I'd want a captain who knows and can bowl in the side, I think that much is a good thing, someone who may not bowl a lot but has experience of field setting etc from a bowler's point of view. I'd be changing the whole side more or less anyway, new captain to come in afresh which I think is a good thing, and pick from the squad.

But England will carry on as if it was just bad luck, the side underperformed and there's nothing to worry about, just like in the football.

Vaughan should STFU anyway, Mr ill discipline as captain of England?!?!?!? :facepalm Broad needs to concentrate on his bowling, his batting and his attitude. Vaughan is a media wh.o.re and I despair when I hear his voice or see his face, not quite as bad as mr smug (Nicholas), but in the same league.

Only ODis eh?
Give ODi and T20 captaincy, if you want to. Or else just hand the ODi captaincy over to Collingwood.
KP will not be named test captain and Collingwood will never step down as T20 captain, as he has a T20 World Cup win in his record!

So, three different formats, three different captains will definitely prove the repetition of old saying "too many cooks spoil the food", which Pakistan experienced few months ago:yes.

Why to discuss this everywhere? the discussion was already going on in general discussion.

I agree with you on this. Even I feel that Collingwood should be the ODI skipper, not because he is the same for the T20s but I feel that he can do a better job than KP.

KP will just bring mess with his unending ego!

I doubt that Colly will be picked for the ODI squad anymore so why on earth you believe he'd be the best choice is beyond me. He wasn't being played by the end of the World Cup.

I agree with Themer here. Collingwood being picked in the side will be a big surprise and him being selected as the captain, I just cant think of that happening.
