Gambhir or Hughes?

Hughes has not played any International level limited overs cricket, cannot compare his domestic success to Gambhirs International career.

Also Hughes is not exactly a proven Test batsman, more of a flash in the pan, once again Gambhir wins.

Hughes = 1 year wonder
Gambhir = most consistent Test batsman of last 2 years.

Gambhir is better in tests, at OD and T20...
Hughes is a player with a good future...

It's impossible to compare the 2, Hughes hasn't been given much of a chance, as we all know the stupidity of the selectors

Was probably good for his career that he got dropped actually. Allowed him to go away and work on the clear technical flaws that had been exposed in his game. There was no way he'd have had chance to make those changes in the middle of an important series like that one. Think it was a smart move from the Aussie selectors, saved him losing anymore confidence.

Obviously is going to be Gambhir, Hughes hasn't played the other two formats at the highest level and you can't compare a guy that played 2 test series to a seasoned player like Gambhir.

You can't say Hughes is worse than Gambhir in the shorter format! Gambhir sorta failed in the CLT20, while Hughes was the second best batsman in completely unfamiliar conditions.

For now I'd have to say Gambhir, as his game has less flaws than Hughes. But once Hughes sorts out his short ball weakness I don't think anyone in the world will rival him.

Gambhir is better in all formats, just because he didnt score in 1-2 series like CL dosent mean he is not so good player, he has been scoring runs in all formats for last 12-18 motnhs very consitently...

I don't think its worth a comparison.
Hughes has played very few international matches whereas GG is getting to ton.
This comparison is something like Shane Watson and Murali Vijay.

Binnu added 1 Minutes and 7 Seconds later...

And yeah, Hughes is a good promising future star and is a man, who can become GG.:)

TBH these comparison threads are starting to annoy me. We saw how the comparisons to Bradman might have affected Hughes, and several other young players have suffered from unnecessary comparisons to great players before.

It's unnecessary pressure, and means absolutely nothing.

Very true, and really very nice example !

Gambhir even if Hughes had played as much cricket as Gambhir has done. Gambhir is one of the best batsman right now in international cricket and is in the form of his life.
