Global Premier League X

anyways it's really surprising that cook and kieswetter both aren't in the lineups for the teams despite performing really well in the only chance they got. :noway

Your grade restrictions doesn't permit me to play Cook . Ferguson , Morkel and Collingwood have been more vital to me as G2 players .

first all season and such a disappointment to lose out in the semi's, just too many starts and not enough batsmen carrying on to a bigger score led us to a well below par score which the bowlers found hard to defend, randiv had a shocker of a game.

Woooo, we got in. I never expected to be in the final but now we are in. And we gotta go on. Ab led from the front last game, Excllent pitch so expect him to lead again lol.

Unchanged

@prats: yeah i know that, but i really didn't have much time. :)

anyways it's really surprising that cook and kieswetter both aren't in the lineups for the teams despite performing really well in the only chance they got. :noway

Well, the only people Kieswetter can replace are Williamson and Mclaren. Now, Mclaren is in for the extra bowling power I want and Williamson cause he's on great form :)

Munich all set for the ultimate battle

AbDeVilliersSouthAfricaNetsSession2011yPKJTF9jh3ml-1.jpg

Both the captains practice for the 'game that matters the most'

Match Facts
June 8th, Munich
Start Time: 3:00pm GMT, (Local time: 5:00pm)

The Big Picture

Both the sides have done extremely well to reach this stage. Cape Chokers 'choked up' in the latter stages of the tourney, LA and Delhi never looked to threaten that much, Miami did well after a horrid draft and start but it wan't enough, Tokyo Antarctica and Auckland were stomped in the playoffs

Melbourne played really good cricket in the group stages, finishing second. Then they beat the defending champions in the semifinal and now they stand here. Just one win away from winning the trophy

The story however was not too easy for Essex, with three defeats in the first five rounds, no one would have expected them to come this far. But then a four-match winning streak and with the big guns losing in the penultimate rounds, Essex grapped an unlikely third place. Though they were pasted by the defending champs in the Major QF. Clinical performances in the Preliminary SF and Semifinal have got them here in the final.

Pitch Conditions

The pitch here in Munich is flat and hard. The ball will bounce a bit and come into the bat which is favorable for batsmen. An absolute paradise for batting

Form Guide
(Most Recent First)

Melbourne: WWLWL
Essex:.......WWLWW

Watch out for

Melbourne have been banking on their successful top-order and they have produced the goods whenever required. Among these, the most succesfull has been Hashim Amla. The Protean has scored a mammoth 601 runs @ 60.1 runs per match with a decent S/R of 86. One more guy whom Essex should be vary off is Amla's opening partner Jacques Kallis . He's not been as consistent as Amla but consistent enough. He's scored 437 runs @ 43.7 runs per match with a S/R of 89. He's even picked up 11 wickets with the ball @ 33 runs/wicket with an E/R of 4.8. Last but not the least, there is Morne Morkel. He's picked up 19 wickets @ 26.9 runs/wicket with an E/R of 5.2

Essex have been banking largely on their skipper Abraham Benjamin de Villiers to anchor their innings and he's done quite well. After a quite start to the season, he's scored 514 runs @ 42.8 runs per match. Then they have the fast and furious Brett Lee who will be vital for Essex' success in the finale given the nature of the Munich track

Stats and Trivia

- This will be Morne Morkel's fourth consecutive finale. An individual record
- If Melbourne win, then they'll be the only team to win the cup twice, having won it in the inaugural season
- There will be 7 South Africans playing in this final (Kallis, Amla DeVillers, McLaren, Malan, Parnell, Morkel) and eight if you count South Africa born Kevin Pietersen, certainly a GPL record
- Essex narrowly won the previous encounter between the two teams this season

Quotes

'We won it, but six season back, but now the teams are totally different. What we have to do is collect the history, piss on it and dump in the Pacific Ocean and just concentrate on tomorrow's game
A relaxed Haarithan speaks ahead of his teams finale

We won the previous encounter in the season but that doesn't give us an excuse. We need to put in more than 100% tomorrow. The players are all set and hopefully the result goes our way
A determined Muhaiminul speaks ahead of his maiden finale

Cool preview there Dipak.

I swear to God you've given de Villiers a rating more than 45 .
Congrats Essex , despite a decent fightback from us . That leaves us with 1 title and 3 runners up finishes. :(

Amsterdam Normal pitch? :p

Silly Colly - why would he bowl first in a paradise wicket? :facepalm

awesome presentation, like the scorecard too :p

Essex would be disappointed that they couldn't make more than they did, but their middle order was always looking weak on paper and it turned out to be true today. But i think that they should be able to defend this if they keep Amla & Kallis quite.
