Google announces new open-source web browser

Comparing this initial beta release (which seemingly was hurried in as it is because of the press leak) to Firefox 3, a browser in it's third generation, is pretty unfair.

I wasn't comparing the browsers. Just saying there's no point in fixing something if it ain't broke.

I have installed this around about three days ago and everything seems to be going smoothly except for the fact that you are unable to scroll up the page. I am forced to repetitively click 'home', 'end', 'page up' and 'page down' and this really annoys me.

Well then there would be no improvements to anything... Why are Firefox working on their next release? I'm hopeful that Google's feature-set will match Firefox and still be quicker, when it is released, in which case it would be an improvement, even if Firefox is working fine. :D

I'm not sure what you are talking about... I'm able to scroll up. What website were you unable to scroll up and down.... or I guess if you mean all websites, give me an example of one that didn't work.

Yes, I do mean every website on the internet. One being this one right here, PlanetCricket and it is quite irritating it press 'home', etc, etc instead of scrolling. I hear that you have to install some kind of drivers to scroll up and maybe that's what you have at the moment. Hence you being able to scroll.

It is because we have touchpads - we have laptops. I have the same problem. I have had to install new drivers as some people have, and it still didn't work. It is a bummer, and really ticking me off. Someone please write here or PM me if you know what to do.

And I have already notified Google of the inconvenience, and many people are discussing this on their message boards.

Ah I see. I was using my external mouse and it was working fine. When I used the touchpad scroller it didn't work either.

OT, my wireless USB mouse has been the best purchase I've made for my laptop!

Wireless mouses are so much better. As the saying goes, "Once you go there, you don't go back". Or something like that...

Blimey, didn't realise mice had their own sayings. I had a wireless mouse and went back.

Looks like you need some help choosing one. :D

About mice, I have a wired one, and I don't intend on getting a wireless one as you have to replace the batteries/charge them up, just extra hassle that isn't needed really.
The battery life on mine is pretty long. In fact I've had it for over a year, using it every day, and I think it's needed one battery change.

Wow!! I mean Like real WOW.
I have a wireless mouse, which needs battery change every 1-2 months
Which company?

Well for the last time speaking of wireless mice, I have a MS keyboard / mouse set which requires two batteries each, and they also have easily a battery life of 6 months on a full charge of Alkaline batteries. :)
