Good failure you've got there

TESTS
(including 09/07/2004)

Matches: 79
Inns: 127
NO: 15
Runs: 6086
HS: 257
Avg: 54.33
100: 20
50: 22

I voted Gilly, he's redefined the role of a keeper

yes i know about those stats and did you read my answer corectly i mentioned clearly spin .if you remember the last time this australia toured india ricky ponting scored a king pair and his total runs were less than of gillespie he has scored most of them at home against fast bowlers .he is a failure against spin in the subcontinent.so when he shows he can play spin well then i will be the first to put him in the list as i admire his batting style.and you schould also know their are 10 options so tell me whom could i have left .before you tell stephen fleming name i want to tell you he is the best captain right now and his genius is unmatched and he is the mainstay of the newzealand team and a very good batsman

He is 35 years old and will retire soon.
Going by what he's said, I don't think he'll consider retirement for at least another year or two. His fitness has improved a lot due to his suspension so the real question is most likely whether he can still scare his opposition. His performances since returning have been pretty consistent so I think there's every reason to expect to see him around for a while yet.

Yes, they are good, but not the best..dude don't make fun of Inzi(even it is quite fun)
He CAN run, if you saw him agianst the last group match aganist Sri Lanka!
That is what I call pace!
Ok, fair enough, he's a better runner nowdays than what he once was, however;
http://www.howstat.com.au/cricket/Statistics/Dismissals/DismissalAnalysisBatting_ODI.asp?Stat=6
he's just one runout short of the ODI record :)

btw, I believe this is the Legends of Cricket top 25
Sir Donald Bradman
Sir Garfield Sobers
Sir Vivian Richards
Shane Warne
Sir John Hobbs
Dennis Lillee
Sachin Tendulkar
Imran Khan
Walter Hammond
Sunil Gavaskar
Ian Botham
Sir Richard Hadlee
Keith Miller
W.G. Grace
Graeme Pollock
Malcolm Marshall
Greg Chappell
George Headley
Sir Frank Worrell
Sir Leonard Hutton
Wasim Akram
Kapil Dev
Steve Waugh
Barry Richards
Allan Border

Too many batsmen, I say :p

I voted for Lara. I see Tendulkar's winning the poll by a long stretch, no surprise there. Lara's never been as consistent as Tendulkar, but he has an incredible ability and when he's batting at his best, there's not another batsman who comes close.

Just a matter of whether you interpret the best as being the most consistent performers, or being the most talented. I guess most people in this poll agreed with the first of the two.

He is 35 years old and will retire soon.As for his records,I am too lazy to post them.Check cricinfo.com.

lazy people dont follow cricket' cricket is for people who work hard' dude if you become a internationla cricketer' if you play a test match you got to stand in the field for about 7/8 hours and if you play in odi you got to stand for about 5/6 hours' plus if you are a bowler you have to bowl your ten overs which mean you got to walk back and then run 60 times' and if you are a batsmen then good luck' :cheer

Sachin

where is Dravid & Jaysuriya ?

nitish rahul dravid is their at no 3 and jayasuriya is not their because his not consistent enough against good sides have great fast bowling like australia he struggles to make runs.i think kumar sangarakara is a better player than jayasuriya and is making good progress of becoming the best keeper batsman in the world

dude theman every batsment have a weaknes' but it does'nt mean that they are not better then some of the other players'sachin inzimam'rahul dravid and ex' rahul dravid is also struggling at the moment againts aussies' and also inzi againts sri lanka' i can't figure out why you don'nt have jaysuria in that poll' He has been performing really well againts pakistan making almost 300 runs'
And what about shoiab akhtar he has been taking wickets in daily basis' he has been very consistent againts sri lanka almost picking up 15 wickets. And i dont understand why you don't have jaysuria instead of stephen fleming' If you want to make poll's theman please be a little bet consistent' :cheer

fardin everybody scores against pakistan but he really struggles away from home like in australia and even in srilanka and yes dravid is struggling but it is due to lack of form you cant go on making centuries after centuries as steve waugh said-he is also a human .but he does not have problem with facing quicks or spin like jaysuriya has facing good bowlers like mcgrath or bond as most of the batsman in srilanka do and shoib akhtar is not consistent enough like glen mcgrath and mutthai muritharan.i think pakistan is a far better team than srilanka they schould prepare fast green tracks and i am sure except kumar sangarakara most batsman of srilanka will sttrugle and having the great inzi pakistan would surely win the game

yeah but dude' shoiab akhtar is one of the fastest bowlers in the world atleast you should include him in that poll' and also jaysuria you should include him too' i understand that rahul dravid is struggling' but what you are talking about in this ocassion is batsment's weakness and i am sure rahul dravid has some weakness againts good bowlers too; liek glenn mcgrath jason glesspie and extra'

Sangakkara will never become the best keeper batsman in the world.First of all,he does not keep in tests, whichs makes him an odi keeper only. And Second of all,Adam Gilchrist is the best keeper batsman in the world as he keeps in tests and odi's and is a terrific batsman. This is proof enough that Gilchrist is miles better then Sangakkara

fastest doesnt mean the best. throwing down mysteriously quick after-lunch-spells or refusing to bowl when the team needs it the most and then slogging when the team needs to bat time are not the characteristics of a great cricketer. he may have a good heart and a strong arm but greatness is measured on that 22 yard strip. he's nowhere near it.

james - if consistency was the criterion people selected their options on, then Dravid and before this series Laxman should have been up there. no greatness includes consistency but doesn't mean only that. its something intangible perhaps, proved by statistics but still intangible. sachin's greatness is perhaps in his shoulders. its not easy to carry a team in some of its most turbulent years and its not easy to carry 100 million(local) expectations and satisfy them almost always. Lara's a great player, better in two aspects than even Sachin (beautiful backlift and long innings) but Sachin pips him to being the greatest on sheer weight of runs he has scored and on the sheer weight of the expectations that he satisfies.

tangy - was it not Sir Jack Hobbs? And perhaps one or two names in that list of legends can be exchanged with Victor Trumper(the best pre-Bradman batsman in Australia) and Jonty Rhodes(the man who redefined fielding)...

how can you tell so confidently sangarakara will never become the best wicket keeper batsman as gilchrist is getting older he may have to face a time to choose between odi cricket and test cricket and his keeping has also been sloppy in the last test match .surely as age is catching he will have to retire you can<t say he is going to play for ever and except his 100 in the first test and 100 in the test against srilanka he has not been performing to his level this year.and i am sure after little kalu retires it will be sangarakara who will keep in the test side.

yeah fardin therefore he scores lots of runs against them .he has been unbeten on 4 occasions in the last 5 test against aus .and he has been voted as the best player in both odi and test his weakness perhaps is expectation and he has a cool head .he relises pressyre i cant think of too many players in world cricket having that sort of quality and i would never have jayasuriya in that poll as he is inconsisitent and he is basically a sitting duck for micheal kasprowicz and other good fast bowlers
