Have India gone soft?

:clap

Some of the posts here are ridiculous, "he sucked in IPL so lets debut him in Test, it must mean he is a Test player if he can't slog" :facepalm

If he cant bat fast enough and score enough runs in a tournament like the IPL where the quality of bowling is not even close to international standards, then how must he fare when he plays ODI cricket? A player who scores heavily in IPL might not translate that into international cricket, but if a player doesnt do as well in IPL cricket, then its highly tough for him to do well in international cricket.

so you suggest putting him in Test cricket, that was my point. Test cricket is not a testing arena, its the final arena, its where you reach after you succeed in the other formats.,

I'm not sure how you put it all together. It is T20 and the approach is different. Plus, it is IPL. I just don't buy when someone tells me if a player is good/not so good by just his T20 performances. I'm very sure he can come in ODI scene if we really do need the stability.

Test matches as Mark said are of the highest level.

No, I never said "because of all that", you put him in test cricket.

His performances in the longer format has been excellent. He has been a heavy run scorer in domestic cricket. And he has had a brilliant tour with the India A team to England (he captained the team). He scored a lot of runs during that tour, and also he has been on the fringes of test selection for a long time now. He has been long hailed as Dravid's successor for the kind of price he puts on his wicket and the patience that he has to score loads of runs.

I just said he doesnt suit the shorter formats due to his style of cricket. If at all he plays for India, it should be in tests

Sai, Pujara was the best Indian batsman in the List A matches on the tour to England too...and his List A average is a whopping 57 at a strike rate of 82. Pretty good for an anchorman type of batsman.

Very soft performance from India today that too without Gambhir, Sachin, Yuvi, Zak and Bhajji. ;)
