So I have the game on ps4 and I was wondering how powerful the in-game logo creator was without using svgs and overlays. Obviously it can't produce new perfect renditions of logos and kits like illustrator and inkscape due to its limitations so I decided to create a fantasy league, attempting to design around these limitations. I'm by no means a graphic designer but I thought it might be interesting.
The story part:
Today Cricket Ireland, Cricket Scotland, KNCB and the Danish Cricket Association have together announced the European Cricket Super League with the aim in developing cricket in the host nations, particularly Denmark. Sponsored by Shell oil,the competition will feature teams from Amsterdam, Belfast, Copenhagen, Dublin, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Londonderry/Derry and The Hague and will consist of 20 over, 50 over and 3 day competitions. Each competition will be a round robin with the top 2 teams playing in a final.
The first team to be announced was the Edinburgh Blasters.
Their kits - made by the official apparel sponsor of the ECSL, Snowball Sports - look like this
The practical part:
Using the text prefabs it is fairly easy to create simple wordmarks for teams although there are a limited amount of ways you can manipulate the font without having to just make a letter from scratch and occasionally you spend loads of time working on a font and then it just sorta morphs itself when you save it like the Blasters logo. Shell was picked as a sponsor partly because of it being a large company with worldwide headquarters in the UK and the Netherlands from a story perspective but mainly because of its logo girl having a very similar font to the presets in game and having. The competition logo is simple, symbolic of both Europe and cricket and worked really well in the editor.
The Blasters logo is a cricket ball being fired out of mons meg, a famous canon in Edinburgh Castle. It looked to wide initially so I put it in a shield. Simple patterns like the tartan on the sleeves and the gradient with the canon are easily enough created within the editor but if you try anything too more complex it becomes almost impossible, the first thing I did when I got the game was try to create the csk logo and i gave up after 2 hours of getting nowhere.
The Edinburgh Blasters are available for download under username: TekkogsSteve if anyone else finds this interesting
