Your Cricket How to increase my bowling pace? (my bowling vid inside )

It's hard to tell much from the videos, without watching from behind/in front. But for me, the key thing to bowling is to get your bowling action working well. Once that's reliable enough and repeatable without causing injury, there are 2 keys to bowling fast:

1) Make sure your run up is straight. It can be angled in towards the batsman or away from him, but between your start point and where you release, it has to be straight. If you move in and out (i.e. weaving), it'll slow you down. Momentum needs to be in a straight line to be as fast as possible.

2) Literally run faster. You're not going to bowl faster by running in slowly. This is hard, because you can lose your action and lose control. That's why it's key to get the action working well first. Start your run up and gradually build up speed, so you're at the quickest as you're hitting your delivery stride. There's no point in having an extra long run up if you're slowing down again half way through it.

That's my tips anyways, give them a try.

Hari,

The video doesn't really help us in looking at your action. Maybe try a front-on view or a view from the side that captures your entire run-up. Get a friend to do this for you!

MUFC is spot on, your action is your base point. Get so comfortable with your action that there is no variation in it from ball to ball, and make sure you can replicate your action over and over again with little to no variation. Running in faster is a good idea, and you might find that you control your action better if you don't have a huge delivery jump.

The other thing I would say is to hit the gym and work on your core, upper back, and shoulders. Bowling is a full-body action, but these particular muscles contribute a lot of pace.

Good luck with your cricket dreams!

Contrary to what MUFC says, I don't believe that running in fast is vital to bowling faster - what's more important is finding a rhythm to your run-up that is comfortable to you. For instance, I only come in off about ten paces, but I build up the speed in my run-up and the fastest point is as I reach my delivery stride. I bowl mid-120s I think, so... yeah.

But what is most important is that you relax and bowl comfortably, as well as making sure you do something with the ball. After all, 130 straight up and down is easier to play than 120 that swings.

I'm not saying that you can't bowl quick without running in faster, because you can be naturally strong, like a Simon Jones was and generate a lot of pace due to the action. But for 99% of bowlers around the world, a quicker run up will result in faster bowling. Look at any professional who steams in off the boundary. Brett Lee and Shoaib Akhtar didn't come in from the boundary rope to find rhythm, you need that at the start of your run up. They come in to build up pace.

I have played cricket in association with TNCA for the past 13 years. I started my career as a fast bowler and ended my career as an opening batsman who could keep wickets and also bowl leg spinners.

With the three videos you have posted, i could not really get the best idea but certain things that you should keep in mind is that "JUMP" is one of the most essential part of fast bowling. It gives you the pace and you can get your line and length to better accuracy. Your jump is almost NULL in the videos.

On a general note, i would recommend you not to concentrate on pace now. I think you are young and aggressive, concentrate on line, length and also make sure that when you bowl your right hand comes close to the ears, this improves the accuracy. For now don't try for pace, it wont help you in the long run. The faster you bowl, the better chance that you will be taken to the cleaners especially in this T20 age. Good luck if you are going to make cricket as your career. :thumbs

Also hit the GYM and improve your body, work a lot with non cardio equipments.

Bowling faster

A good jump, strong wrist and muscle are helpful to bowl faster.

A good height also help bowler to bowl faster.

Also while approaching towards the wicket you need to increase speed gradually.

Running in fast can give you like 20% of your pace, but you have to be able to translate it into pace on the ball. When you get to your gather, you have to be mindful to keep that momentum going.

If you are an Indian then you should feel proud to be touching 120 km :p on a serious note, the. Pace is generated from your shoulders and flick of the wrist. So your built and action has a lot to say regarding pace. Usually, if you have a slingy action I.e Waqar, Shoaib, Mitchell Johnson, Malinga, you will.generate an extra ounce of pace.
