ICC Cricket Captain 2006 Ashes edition getting to work issue

I have (and love) ICC Cricket Captian 2006, recently I have had to change my PC so that now I am on Windows 8.1 64-bit edition.
I have reinstalled ICC 2006 and at first it was working to an aceptable level. The graphics were slower than when it was on my XP based PC but I could still play the game.
Now a few weeks later the game is going at an unbelivable slow rate, to such a point that it is unplayable.
Has anyone out there got this game working sucessfully on a WIN8 pc and if so what settings or tips do I have to implement to get this up and running sucessfully.

try running in compatibility mode. Right click---> properties--->compatibility tab. Select windows xp service pack 2. And also run as admin option. Give it a try
