Story ICC CRICKET WORLD CUP South Africa 2003

Match Report: SKYSPORTS
Border left the pavilion neede 5 an over to get the target of 250. Straight away it was evident what kind of match we were in for when the ball was edge 3 times over the slips with the odd intende square cut thrown in.

-M.Bruyns rides the bounce and htis it for 4.
However the luck with the edges was about to runut when J.Anderson picked up the wicket of M.Bruyns at the start of the 3rd over. Then two balls later he removes S.Pope for 0 in simular fashion getting caught behind by stand in keeper M.Trescothic. Now on the fifth delivery J.Anderson removes L.Gamiet for 2 this time caugth at slip[ by N.Knight. One ball remaining and unbelivably Anderson gets the 4th wicket with Collingwood taking a brilliant catch at Point, leaving Border 31-4 after 3 overs.

-S.Pope doesn't last one edging it to Trescothic 31-2.
It seemed now that Border would be all out before the 15 overs were up howevr little partnerships left Border at 71-7 when M.Matika who offered most resistance was runout for 53 (44). Wickets continued to fall ubtill the 10th wicket partnership of 62 restored some dignity to the Border chase however C.White cleaned up the tail leaving them 168 allout.

Innings Report:Skyports
Zimbabwe got of to the worst possible start losing openign batsmen C.Wishart in the very first innings for just 4 (2). Things didn't get any better when M.Vermeulen was caught behind by A.Stewert for just 9 leaving Zimbabwe at 24-2. G.Flower and A.Flower offered some resistance untill G.Flower was caught at a well place slip.
Cricket20042005-06-2611-09-03-40.jpg

-Zimbabwe hit some nice fours.
Cricket20042005-06-2611-26-26-71.jpg

-G.Flower gets dismissed for just 15 being caught by N.Knight at slip.
Cricket20042005-06-2611-32-53-39.jpg

-A.Flower doesn't last long either getting clean bowled after miss juding a Caddick delivery.
With the score now 56-4 it seemed liekly that Zimbabwe could be all out for less than 150. However D.Ebrahim and A.Blignaut thought otherwise putting a useful artnership bring them to 101 before D.Ebrahim gave away his wicket with a simple catch of C.Whites first over.
Cricket20042005-06-2611-57-17-65.jpg

-D.Ebrahim hits a late cut away for 4.
So with Zimbabwe at 101 for 5 it was vital Zimbabwe got a partnership and T.Taibu and A.Blignaut hung around to make sure this happened with Blignaut making 32 and Taibu making 68.
Cricket20042005-06-2613-46-20-67.jpg

-T.Taibu reaches a fifty saving Zimbabwe.

Eventually Zimbabwe reached 192-6 with just over 12 overs left. G.Whittall joined in the action with him adding 26 before getting out to Collingwood leaving them at 243-8. Now with a big score any runs were a bonus on this bowling pitch. So can England chase such a huge score on this wearing bowling pitch, we'll soon find out.
Cricket20042005-06-2612-34-45-76.jpg

-A.Blignaut in action hitting fours.
Cricket20042005-06-2613-01-27-73.jpg

-T.Taibu clips it of his legs for another four.
Cricket20042005-06-2613-55-28-57.jpg

-G.Whittal joins in hitting some beautiful fours.
