A loss would have thrown us out. India's NRR was the weakest and there is no way we could have pushed above both Pakistan and Australia. Somehow luck got on our side. But we need victories like this to propel our campaign. We had two bad games in the 2011 WC, one that defeat to SA and the other the tie against England. But we held our nerves and got forward.
I am not a believer in this "we don't deserve the trophy, blah blah blah" theory. The team that wins it, deserves it. In a format where one over or even a few balls can change the whole story of the game, from where the heck do people talk about "deserving and not deserving"? Absolute rubbish. If India go on to make the final and win it, they would've deserved the trophy. Today Bangladesh handed it to us but we took it to that position where they had that brain freeze.
I think that one line makes this a certain nominee for post of the year. Very few people realise what it's like to be part of a team, grow with it, lead it, succeed with it and fail with it. I've been very fortunate to witness all of this at a certain level. I still maintain that MSD's captaincy at various stages was poor, but the guy is an OUTSTANDING wicketkeeper. It will as usual slip under the carpet, like Jadeja's contribution, but the guy is pure magic. I don't know about you guys but I feel more convinced after every game for the need of another spinner if Dhoni is so reluctant to use Raina/Yuvraj when need be. Also, like @SaiSrini pointed out, such games make teams bond better and if anything they'll be better now than an easy 30 run win.
Just a word on Bangladesh- I would genuinely feel bad for any team that would have lost it like they did, but boy have their fans had it coming. I was hoping for a grade A spanking, but this is sweeter. Mushfiqur's reaction after the lap shot for a boundary now is comedy gold in the history books. Perhaps, they can now post pictures of half shaven Indians promoting the cutter. May be some of their cricketers can help with the article once they're home because they aren't going any further in this WC. Thanks for coming! I wouldn't change a darn thing!
