India-Australia series new Ashes - Brett Lee

AUSTRALIA paceman Brett Lee has likened the prospect of playing India and the enormous interest the coming four-Test series will generate to that of an Ashes contest.

Lee enjoys immense popularity on the subcontinent despite never having played a Test in India, and is eager to return to the MCG for the Boxing Day Test, where he took 5-47 on debut against Sachin Tendulkar's side eight years ago.

"Time has flown by so quickly and there are some absolutely great memories playing at the MCG, on a team basis and an individual basis," Lee said.

"We have always said that playing against England in the Ashes is where it's at, but I also think now playing against India is one of our greatest challenges as far as Test match cricket goes."

Lee will be hopeful of more assistance from his fellow bowlers against India this summer

Brett Lee is obsessed with India. He will probably sing some defences of any sledging during the series.

It's a big series, but I wouldn't call it the new Ashes, we've been rivals with England for much longer than India have been playing test cricket.

He'll end up acting in Bollywood over there. He should just go live there. He loves it so much.

We were rivals with England as soon as the convicts came here.

His comments are spot on I feel, some of the contests that India and Australia have had in the past few series have been immense, and I don't see why this series can't be any different.

Yeah but it's not Ashes level. Meh Gilly_Fan your probably living next-door to a convict who doesnt know he/she is a convict :p

Well England havent given Australia much of a contest (apart from that one fluke Ashes). Most of the matches against India have been good contests though Australia have been the better side and have won more of those contests.

The Ashes is just about hype. Every time it happens, the hype comes from the history of the encounters between the two teams. India and Australia have had some exciting encounters which have had India do well at various points of time than England.

India and Australia is more exciting than Aus-England.

Yes India v Australia matches have been exciting, but Australia v England is still a greater contest both from hype, but also from the intense rivalry.

And Sean, why would you introduce convicts into the topic?

That's kinda what the rivalry is. We're the convicts, and they're. Well they're just the Poms. :p

It'll be hard to find a contest more intense then the Ashes Series. Australia and India have had some intense matches over the past few years, but nothing can top the Ashes

The history surrounding the Ashes is what makes them special in my opinion, and the fierce rivalry, not just between the teams themselves, but between the nations.

However, in recent times (with the exception of 2005) India-Australia has produced much better cricket, hence why I would prefer to watch that series above the Ashes.

I live next door to Japanese people. ;)

Are the chicks goers? If they are, get your bottom next door! :p

Thats a load of rubbish from Brett. Australia and England are rivals. India and Australia may be better matched at this PRESENT moment but it doesn't mean they are rivals.

This is off topic, but what I meant was that you started 3 duplicate threads (probably by a mistake), and they were all on for hours, and usually andrew_nixon is quick with editing, deleting stuff, but I have not seen him active for months?
