For those who do care about the indian team plz do not read further.

What is it with the indian cricket team?Do they love to lose in finals ? Where does their confidence disappear during a final?
Many an Indian had thought that Chappell as coach and Dravid at the helm would work wonders for India...but it just di'nt happen. Why so ? The obvious answer would be the missing tendulkar. But what could he too have done.In the finals the team performs miserably and this includes all the stars too.
The moment Mohd Azharrudin was sacked as India captain ,they began their losing streak.Last six years the team has just managed to win one final .The team though can be credited to have reached the finals of 20 tournaments has not even been able to convert them into a win(except lords 2002).
The same team which has been the Champions trophy holder(though i doubt it would have been had the game not been washed out) and also the same team which reached the world cup finals gave an awfully pathetic performance in bangladesh last year where they narrowly won the series 2-1.
The home sereis against pakistan , inida lost 4-2.They have even lost the indian oil cup final when they were in a winning position. From 200 /2 ,a target of 280 seems very much in hand, but no , it s not so for the indians.
If the pathetic performance doesnt see any improvement the team might even lose to Bermuda and Canada which would not be surprising seeing that Kenya can outdo them very easily. No doubt the team will reach the 2007 WC finals but they stand a very good chance of losing the final even against Ireland.

India are 7th in the ICC Rankings. And about the finals losing streak, I think the confidence is not there especially having lost so many finals.

But I have said this a million times before and I'll say it again. India needs atleast one good allrounder in the team.

Yep, and contrary to what some people believe, Pathan is not an allrounder just yet. India's lack to provide decent allrounders has hurt them severly after the great Kapil Dev retired. India are a very capable team, with fantastic talent, but for some reason, we self destruct after a long partnership has been broken.
If one of our good players fail to preform, the lineup crumbles.
I wouldn't use pressure as an excuse, but playing for India means that you are under extreme pressure. If you do badly for one game, some fans start demanding the removal of that certain player...

India just need to fight it through, give a complete effort, and if they do, im sure they will be back at near or at the top of the rankings...

India have no idea how to win. They can't figure out where they are going wrong, so they keep doing the same thing.
After the 30th over they should have accelerated. They waited 4-5 more overs, RRR got to 6.5, then they lost their heads. And yet all Indian supporters say "They died fighting". Stupid.

They need some good seamers first up, or the 15 overs is the oppos easily. I am looking forward to this winters tour.

Well the tests against england would be interesting but on current form i feel the odi's would no 'no-match' at all.

ya, the tests against England will be interesting . World No.2 Vs World No.3 and it would settle the debate of the second best side in test cricket.
AS for the ODIs, if India play as they are doing now, It would be a mismatch .

Personally I think too much depends on Sehwags performances. Like in the India vs Pakistan series only when Sehwag got a good performance India could finish it with a win. And yes, they need to have an allrounder and not only one.

The upcoming series of England in Pakistan can presumably tell give an indication in which form India is. Pakistan won 7 ODI's in a row and England had just been edged out in the last ODI's by Australia. I surely hope the Indians will follow these series to see what they need to do to beat England and Pakistan later on in the following series.

We need a team comprising of the best 15 or best 11 in the country not those who are selected on previous performances.
Had the indians had an aussie or pakistani management then there would not have been sehwag, ganguly and plenty of othere ppl inthe team.
I agree with chappell ..pick the best team and then select a captain out of that.

This is funny. Just as you said this, a lot of players with experience has been dropped from the ODI side. Kumble, Laxman, Zaheer Khan and Balaji have been dropped, but they retain their place in the Test side.

pakistan also has been in the past loosing finals :(
loosing the pak-ind cup final last year...
loosing asia cup (almost final =P)
loosing the netherland cup final
loosing the world cup 99 final...
and a couple moore i cant remember =P

There's a debate? I'd call it no contest

Hmm. I wonder if I was on the selection comitee if I would drop Kumble and Zaheer. If you were Sri Lanka, and Murali was as usual ur best spinner in the last tournament, would you drop him? Zaheer didnt take too many wickets, but he boiwled brilliantly so why the hell was he dropped?

I think india wants to have a reason for losing in finals. Thats why they dropped key players. Look at NZ. They went to Zim with a 100% squad and they will show no mercy.

I think india forgot that ther is another team to play other than Zimbabwe.

why would it be a no contest ? It took you Aussies 35 years to beat us in India . Its not easy beating the World No.3 with 2 class spinner in their own den .

Why Balaji? 10-48-1 in the only game he played in the series and that too coming off a long break/injury. It's just pathetic how the selectors target those who have actually performed well in the series (except Laxman).

The way India is playing right now, I will lean towards Brad's prediction. But, you never know with this Indian team, when it's against England, they pull off some unbelievable victories.
