Indian Premier League 2012 Opening

Suresh Raina was the most expensive buy during the India auction, will play for Kolkata Knight Riders

Finally, the wait is over! It took a long time to get the teams ready but, one would feel it was worth it. Each of the 6 teams have 15 players. India auction was dull for most part with players mostly going for base prices but, then there was some fierce competition for the 'IPL specialist' Suresh Raina and the 'run machine' Virat Kohli. Mumbai Indians managed to grab Kohli for $1,300,000 which was the highest bid then. But, it was Raina who stole the show as Kolkata Knight Riders bid a whopping $1,780,000 to snatch Raina from the others.

Of the 5 Star players, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman were unsold while Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid were picked by their home franchises for $1,000,000, $1,000,000 and $500,000 respectively. Only home teams could pick these players and for a fixed price. Kolkata Knight Riders and Deccan Chargers decided they won't.

It was then decided and agreed on a draft for the overseas players. All the franchises are happy with who they have got as their international stars. It was quick, not so much though.

Each team will play the others once. 5 games for a team followed by the playoffs where the top 4 qualify. The opening game will be held at Feroz Shah Kotla where the home team Delhi Daredevils will take on the visitors Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Owners must note that in a playing XI, maximum of 3 overseas players are allowed.​
