India's coaching staff (Fletcher/Simmons) - Should they go?

Kapil Dev - Sourav Ganguly combo will be awesome IMO. But I don't see that coming!

Did not Kapil Dev fail hard when he coached India about 10 years ago??

Ganguly might be OK, but I think only after his former teammates have retired. When you are coaching your old mates, I think there is potential for you to either favour them or not tell them the honest truth. I think of Justin Langer coaching the Aussie batsmen - apart from this last series v India, he hasn't overseen much success, and I personally believe that he hasn't been tough enough on the older players like Ponting.

BCCI should have made someone like Stephen Fleming coach who is young and has played so many Tests and ODIs and captained so well in international cricket.Fletcher has knowledge but is too old and not that exprienced as a player in the international cricket.Eric Simons also should have been replaced as bowling coach by experienced international former bowlers. Many such as Pollock,Jason Gillespie have done good jobs in the IPL as coaches and there are others also and none of them would say no to an international coaching job.Fletcher lost his coaching skills after 2006 as we saw that disappointing 5-0 whitewash for England and poor performance in the 2007 World Cup.

I had mentioned initially about Stephen taking up the job. I think what goes in his favor is the simple fact that he is very much similar to Gary Kirsten. Soft-spoken and seems to get along well with the Indians.
The board didnt really conduct an extensive man-hunt when it came to replacing Kirsten. In fact, we got a new coach in like 2 weeks time. The coach-hunt prior to Fletcher had been quite extensive, with there being a presentation, rounds of interviews so on and so forth. This one was'nt the same.

Did he coach team India? Sorry I don't know about it, wasn't much into cricket ten years back. Begun watching the game seriously since the 2003 WC. Before that I used to support West Indies for fun as I was in the Red group in my school. :p

Kapil was the coach when Sachin was the captain. I think this was before Anshuman Gaekwad, probably during 1999-2000, post the Cricket World Cup.

Kapil is too emotional a guy to be coach of any kind. He always picks the wrong side. He became the head of ICL which fell away. He was coach of India, and we fared so badly. He was also involved in a controversy in a test match against NZ where we mysteriously didnt enforce the follow-on (I think Sachin was captain that time) and even Jaywant Lele talked about it in his autobiography or something. Kapil is not the right guy to be part of the coaching staff.

If you need an Indian coach, Sandeep Patil should be tried. But one overseas guy is a must (either for bowling, or for head coach).

Sandip Patil as head coach with a foreign bowling coach will be good for us. An Indian bowling coach will not work simply cause our bowler shave not done anything great. Maybe an Aussie, English will do. My personal vote would go for a West Indian fast bowler.

Yup i certainly feel the same , 1st all the players opposed him as a coach and BCCI yet went against the players , and once in the last test against Wi fletcher blamed MSD for the draw of the test match . overall even i hate him , the board must rethink of this , Aus players like gilly and pidgy would do good even sai's option aren't bad

I never liked Fletcher ever since he's been selected. Even Lalchand Rajput could do better than that. We need a better cricketing mind and a former player who can actually practice nets with the players like Gary (Kirsten) used to and not the one who just can give his thoughts and can't do anything more than that.

I guess Sunil Gavaskar or even Sourav Ganguly would be a good one as Ganguly has just retired, he knows what exactly it takes in this tight scheduled modern day cricket.

For non-Indians, well Flintoff, Whatmore and Moody are some good options. Flintoff can teach our players his allround skills and the way to bat and bowl outside India. By his inclusion, our pace attack will also be benefited and so will be the batsmen. However, I'm not sure how much Flintoff would be interested in becoming a coach.

Acc. to many source the axe is set to fall on Simmons. Me thinks he should have left honourably after the world cup.

Joe Dawes to become India's bowling coach

It was announced that the former Queensland bowler Joe Dawes will be the bowling coach of India after the end of India's tour of Australia.
Eric Simons contract will expire after the tour and was not renewed.
Dawes played 76 FC matches for Queensland between 1997 and 2005 taking 285 wickets @ 25.38.He is also going to be the coach of Delhi Daredevils in the 2012 IPL and has been bowling coach of South Australia and Adelaide Strikers in 2011.

I dont think Flintoff has even retired :p

He has retired from competitive cricket and his last competitive match was in the 5th Test of the 2009 Ashes series. He was forced to retire due to some knee injury. He announced his retirement in 2010.
