International Cricket Captain III - Official PlanetCricket review

Good review. It's still a good and addictive game but there are so many things that could and should have been improved by now - all more important than the graphics IMO.

Off the top of my head:
- Sortable stats - why can't we sort/filter the player record stats (e.g. by number of runs, economy rate, bowler type). Surely this wouldn't be hard to program?
- More records. OK I'm a stats nerd but why can't series averages, records, etc be retained.
- Ability to pick players for "A"-tours - to test out the "fringe" players.
- Ability to pick central contracts yourself - bizarre that this still hasn't been included.
- Ability to manage other countries domestic teams (not important for me but I can see why others would want this)
- Fielding stats - the only way of choosing between keepers at the mo is by batting average. Why not a fielder stat or at percent dropped catches stat?

These are just a few things that haven't been improved for years.

Then I have some minor niggles with the new game:
- more clicks to change the line and length - why? Annoying.
- field no longer changes with bowler aggression. Again takes more clicks to change both independently.
- having to sit through the whole highlight without being able to exit or fast-forward. If it's not LBW I don't wish to see hawkeye from many different angles - get's boring very quickly.

out of those 6 points you have brought up, 4 of them are included in cricket coach lol.
sortable stats, records, central contracts and other domestic compatations are all in that game

Try pressing space ;)

That was a nice review! :)
But the demo was enough for me to order the game from PLAY AND I RECEIVED IT TODAY!!! :D :D

I'll have to give cricket coach another go. I played last years version and found too many problems with the gameplay (unrealistic scores, bad computer AI, weird scoring rates). If they've sorted some of this out I'll revisit.

Too be fair to ICC, the gameplay is spot on - which is why I still love the game. It's just frustrating that some of the off-field activities that could really enhance the game have not been updated in years.

How is it with retirements in this game? In previous versions someone played forever. I have "retired" Inzamam in ODI'z after WC. But McGrath still playing for Aussies... I know I can't control that but it is a annoying (not that he is that good, but doesn't make it so realistic)

Players only retire at the end of a season, and McGrath will retire at the end of that one. Can't be helped until a new retirement engine comes in.

There still aren't enough sixes. Whilst a county championship match without a six is not that far beyond the realms of possibility, a Twenty20 match without a six is about as likely as a Test match century from Monty Panesar.

I've hit alot of sixes lately. I hit 4 in this innings of 416.

The list of stupid errors that have been there for years.

Declare with less than 10 minutes of the game to go - and it crashes

Alter the name of a regen before he is selected for winter tour - and it crashes

No WK opener regens ever (Why? there are plenty in real life)

No Kolpak regens (Well I've not seen any in this or Ashes)

Add to that no flipping Sixes. (in the whole of the 2007 Twenty20 campaign with Solanki and Hick on full agression most of the ime - at Worcestershires small ground, they managed 1 six between them (despite scoring nearly 400 runs in that competition between them)

Arggh - I'm not a happy bunny with this one, I even preferred the old graphics. Some very wierd stuff goes on graphically speaking, the ball going through the mid off fielder for four (though you can't see the ball travel past him) is annoying. The shotplay looks awkward and "lego arm" compared with the 2d stuff. The ball cannons clearly into off stump - only for the middle and leg to be knocked awry.

As the man said. This is the same game with 3d (but not really better) graphics.

Someone should take a look at OOTP Baseball 2007 to see how a bat and ball sim SHOULD be done. Neat , clearly presented, deep and accurate.

Cricket - despite having a world audience of close on one and a half billion really is a poor relation when it comes to software.
