I think in the particular case of FIFA series, licensing also makes a huge difference, especially for a casual gamer.

Well Ritwik, hardcore gamers also like graphics. After all They are the ones who buy latest graphics card off the shelf.

Ofcourse they like graphics, but they're generally more discerning about the gameplay and more demanding in all other respects. A casual gamer can be 'beguiled' more easily by superb graphics even if the game sucks in all other aspects.

Definitely the new generation games are relying more on graphics but as has been said the game needs to have good gameplay or else the game will be binned after the 1st day.
Basically the games need to have a balance of good graphics and good gameplay not just good graphics and crap gameplay.

Yeah i agree with that aussie1st.

Seems u guys aren't getting it.
The industry is in a transition phase. It's trying to simulate reality.
Also it wants that people should discover things, rather than be told what they are simply b/s of poor graphics of old games.

Howver, there efforts actually are not creating much difference b/s of limits in CPU processing being felt today.Hence u guys are feeling that todays games are graphically intensive than they were before, without any addition to gameplay.

If u ask me, or any hardcore gamer, he would tell u how drastically gameplay has changed. He would tell u that in previous games u could use various non emulated features to his advantage.(like bunny hop in quake III).But now due to focus on reality, those exploits are no longer an option, now skill and battlefield presence are what decides the winner.

Game developers these days are not merely improving graphics for eye candy, but as an addition to gameplay. This is what sets apart games of today.

And Jk, try playing oblivion/FEAR, with both low and high settings, the difference in gameplay quality is almost unbelivable.
