Kevin Pietersen or Ricky Ponting?

Who do you think is the better batsman and why?

This may be a bit've controversial thread but I feel KP is right up there and deserves to be amongst the very best in the game today.

Both are complete batsman and can play a variety of different roles.

I'd sooner have Kevin Pietersen because he's got a lot longer left in his career. However, if Ponting was 28 then i'd have him over our Kev.

Normally I'd say straight Ponting straight away. But the way KP played his last innings and the way he's playing this morning, well it makes me think, it's as if he's suddenly back to his old immensely confident self, and if he can keep that up then I think I'd have to choose KP. It's a just matter of whether or not he can keep this current attitude and performance up.

ODI's is KP quite clearly however tests is Ponting. Unless Pietersen dominates in a couple of years time when he should be at his peak like Ponting does there should be quite a big gap in terms of stats.

I go for KP... he is really entertaining and he bats aggressively in tests which makes test matches exciting...

Ricky Ponting over any other cricketer. I am not a big fan of the Aussies, but its been a privilege to witness a cricketing legend like Punter in my lifetime.

He has got and done everything really. Consistency, match winning knocks, aggressiveness, able to play according to the situation.

However he hasnt impressed me with his captaincy. At most he was average in this regard.

Ponting is better by far in all ways... he plays cricket shots n is hard to get out when he starts going. Kevin is aggressive but is not as feared as ponting... Dont lik assuies bt they r the best

Ponting. Ponting, Lara, Tendulkar were the stars of our generation. KP is kind of caught in the middle of two generations. I'd say in about 3-4 years KP will probably be one of the best batsmen playing the game.

Ricky Ponting although Pietersen could go on and achieve greater things in the future.

Absolute no brainer for me. Ponting is far and away the best batsman in the world at the moment, and for me Pietersen is in the lower half of the top 10 at best. Ponting is mentally tough, physically fit, and scores heavily at every oppertunity. He's the closest thing to a perfect batsman currently playing the game.

It is just my opinion but I've always felt that Ponting is better than Tendulkar and Lara.

Ponting is better but I would have KP over him anyday seeing as he's English and has more years in his career. Plus, he's not short and hairy.
