LV County Championship 2008

Looks like Kent will go down. At the moment, Yorks and Sussex have 155 points, Kent have 154. So unless Kent pull off a draw tomorrow (win looks unlikely) they will be relegated, regardless of what happens at Hove.

Lancs need 60 runs and they haven't lost a wicket.
They can't possibly lose from here,Can they?

Congrats to Lancashire on County Champiionship survival. Durham on their CC win. Kent good luck in Div 2

I think the system is flawed. Kent won 4 games, more than Sussex, Yorks or Somerset. I'd say Durham are worthy champions. Pacers who chip in, plenty of big hauls from Harmison, Thorp and Davies.

Tough luck Kent, I don't think they deserve relegation.

I think they do, they've lost more games than anybody else. The fact that Somerset have had just 5 completed games tells us all you need to know about how the weather affects the competition. It's not as simple as looking at who has won the most games.

Based I what I saw on the first 3 days we certainly deserved to get relegated. Completely outclassed in all departments. Rounds off a pretty rubbish season. While Rob Key may bang on about us reaching 2 finals the simple truth is this. We lost 2 finals, we lost the last Pro40 match which could have seen us promoted, we lost the last 2 championship matches. We finished second to last because our batsmen are unable to build innings. Far too much emphasis on one day cricket, not enough on real cricket. Rob Key has no hope of ever playing for England again unless he deals with this. Joe Denly seriously needs to learn to play anything other than aggressive cricket. Thankgoodness for Martin van Jaarsveld, yes he failed in this match but he's been the only batsman to deserve any credit all season. Batting bonus points don't lie and the sheer number of Extras given away by our bowlers is too frightening to even calculate. Kent have been unable pretty much all season to put runs on the board first time around. Then there is the farcical situation of letting both Matty Walker and Neil Dexter go, when they needed to keep one (either would have been ok). Kent never should have gone into the season with such a small squad, they just looked completely knackered, when they had players in reserve they just never selected them, no wonder Dexter left, Simon Cook for example played just 1 CCh match all season. Can't see much changing for next year, the squad is now even smaller, who knows if McLaren will hang around with all the talk surrounding him playing for South Africa. Who knows if Ford will stay, still favourite for the NZ job I believe. We don't even have any young players ready to take over. There is Sam Northeast who did nothing except fetch drinks this year, but he's still at Uni (taking a year off atm I believe) and a few young bowlers of similar age, but there is no quality coming through, there is no quality in the squad and there is no depth. Our only hope is that the quality of Div2 is as poor as it's prooved to be in the few games I've watched.

For years the club has been run on a div2 budget, now its a div2 club and on this seasons performances its deserved.

Kev added 17 Minutes and 35 Seconds later...

Thought I may as well calculate the Extras and confront the horror ;)

344 runs given away as No Balls in the championship. That's 172 extra deliveries or nearly 29 overs.
91 Wides or 15 overs.

That's just absolutely undefendable.
