MMA/UFC Thread

Bisping got KTFO. His gameplan was off, he was circling towards Hendo's big right, and was asking to get knocked out. Loved the Henderson exclamation mark as well just to knock Mike out even more.

Lesnar is a twat, but dominated the fight. He controlled Frank on the ground, neutralised his stand-up and deserved the win. It wasn't a pretty victory, but a well deserved domination. Shame for Frank as he clearly looked in good shape and had worked seriously hard. Dana's promised Lesnar vs Fedor as well, so that's something to really look forward to :D

GSP is a god, and the best P4P fighter in the world. His stand-up was as good as Thiagos, his wrestling is incredible, his Jiu-jitsu was superb and he has excellent heart. To think he fought 2 rounds with a torn groin, and still dominated them is testament to his skill level. Time to move up I think, the WW division's stocks are looking low.

Belcher deserved a win over Sexyama. I scored it 29/28 in favour of Belcher, so how one of the judges scored it 30/27 I don't know.

Fitch was pretty impressive, deserved his win. As for the Prelim fights, Bonnar lost to old man Coleman, which I believe could spell the end for Bonnar in the UFC, and if it's not he'll only get 1 more fight. He's been beaten by Jones and now by a guy well over the hill. He's still living off that Forrest fight a few years back, and actually appears to not have improved. Jon Jones also continued his run, he looks a serious talent, and I look forward to catching his prelim win later today and CB Dollaway got his ass handed to him as well which is lovely to see.

Overall an event that well and truely lived up to the hype, awesome event made by GSP's domination of Alves. Look forward to UFC 101 for Penn-Florian and Forrest-Silva. Should be another solid card.

Lesnar's looked like that since College. They do do drug testing as well, and they're strict drug tests that quite a few guys have been caught out on. Leben and Bonnar spring to mind. If Brock was on steroids he'd have been found out by now, he's just a genetic freak. Alot of talk from the haters that the UFC should split the HW Division so Brock's a Super HW which is laughable. It was fine when Mir subbed him and beat him, but as soon as he looks good, he shouldn't be allowed to fight at HW. Some of the people on MMA Forums have laughable opinions.

In other news. BISPINGGG:

Oh ok. I just remember when he tried out for the Vikings in 2005 I think after leaving wrestling. I thought he was cut because they found steroids in his system, turns out he just sucked :p

I was wondering what he did these days though, what type of wrestling is this btw, which country is it hosted in?

The Belcher fight was a lot closer than the commentators made out, could easily be scored both ways.

What a KO, Bisping got hammered. He is well overrated and overprotected anyway. Let a good Brit come, don't force it. Lesnar is a dick, if Fedor beats Barnett I will go mental for that fight.

It won't be Lesnar's next fight though obviously. The UFC will give him some far easier opposition in the hope that he mullers them as well, so they can make even more out of Lesnar vs Fedor. I can see Lesnar taking on Carwin, Velasquez and maybe the winner of Nog/Couture before he gets a look at Fedor. The UFC just need to bend over and let Fedor do his Sambo competitions.

Hmm so UFC 105 has been announced and it's looking likely to be free on spike. Which means UK fans are going to get jobbed with a ████ card basically. The next card will be on in Vegas after it so will probably be PPV and end up being the heavyweight title fight.

Someone said to me Dan Hardy might headline with the TUF guys also on it. Err no thanks Dana. Some of us aren't patriotic dick suckers who would rather watch a Brit than a quality fighter. If he thinks he can still somehow sell us Michael Bisping as a top fighter he can piss off. Although someone said to me Fedor could come, now that I would jizz over if he beat Barnett. Unlikely though and I'll probably give this a miss unless a huge crowd decide to go down in which case I'll be going so I can show them Manchester afterwards not because I want to reward the UFC for treating British fans like morons. Maybe you think I'm acting like a little bitch but when you think the lat 2 cards in the uk have been Sanchez V Stevenson and Bisping V Leben they really aren't all that great.

Rant over.

Few things to mention.

UFC 101 this Saturday evening. Already got my ESPN subscription set up, so UFC in HD will be mine this weekend =] ?9 a month is rather cheap, especially given we get an HD channel included in that, and don't need to pay extra for other rooms like Setanta. <3 the UFC going with ESPN and not Sky Box Office!

Fedor's an absolute bell-end. Was offered an incredibly good contract with the UFC, which would have made him the highest paid fighter in the world, but he (well his idiotic M-1 team) turned it down, because the UFC wouldn't co-promote with M-1. They offered him Sambo, offered him everything he could have wanted, but he still turned it down. What a laughable man he is, doesn't have the balls to step up and fight the best. No-one wants to see Fedor vs Overeem or Rogers in Strikeforce.

BJ Penn's also a complete douche. Come out with some more idiotic comments about GSP taking steroids and HGH because he doesn't get fat after a fight. I did have a little bit of respect for him before those comments, but that's gone now, and I'm hoping Florian pulls off a victory. Can't see it happening, but I'd love to see BJ get hammered again like he did against GSP.

I told ya Affliction was going down the pan as well =] Barnett ruined any chance Affliction had of broadcasting Trilogy by testing positive for Steroids twice. They've now given up the promotion business and are back to selling over-priced t-shirts with skulls on, and are now one of the UFC's main sponsors again.

The Affliction collapse has been good for the UFC in more than 1 way as well. Has allowed the UFC to snap up some very solid talent in the form of Vitor Belfort, Paul Daley, Ben Rothwell, Chase Gormley, Dan Lauzon and Rafaelo Oliveira (and it's rumoured there will be a few more additions as well, pretty sure there are a couple of HW's coming in, Paul Buentello was mentioned somewhere, think he may have signed.) Belfort has immediately been thrown into a Main Event fight at 103 against Rich Franklin, replacing Dan Henderson who will be next in line at Anderson Silva, after Silva's fight against Forrest Griffin on Saturday.

Tito Ortiz and Dana White have kissed and made up as well, with Tito returning to the octagon, probably by the end of the year against Mark Coleman. He's not fought since his loss to Machida, and has since had back surgery, but he's now back in training. Working on his boxing with Freddie Roach, and been doing some BJJ training as well. Looking forward to seeing him fight again, he sounds keen to give it a go at chasing the title.

Talking of the LHW Title, I'm really looking forward to Shogun vs Machida. I think Shogun, if he's back fit and at his best, could really give Machida a run for his money. I'm a big Shogun fight, especially having seen his Tournament win in the Middleweight tournament in PRIDE in 2005. I'd love to see him beat Lyoto and set up a fight between him and either Rampage and Rashad.

Wow. That is one word to sum up Anderson Silva's performance last night. Forrest was embarrassed. Anderson was just playing with him, and making a mockery of Forrest's stand-up by keeping his hands down and just counter punching, and counter punching with tremendous power and accuracy. Was a stunning performance, and proved for me that he's the #1 P4P fighter in the world. After he beats Henderson again he should seriously consider moving up to LHW for good. He handled Forrest with ease and I'd love to see him in there with Machida, Rashad or Rampage.

Was pretty disappointed by the undercard, the 2 main events were excellent fights, but the Undercard was full of some nothing fights really. The Sadollah fight was ruined by a ridiculously early stoppage, the Grove fight was pretty dull and I'm not a fan of his anyway, and the Pellegrino fight was very meh. The 102 Undercard is looking far more promising, with Jardine-Alves, Maia-Marquardt and Leben-Rosholt.

BJ Penn was impressive as well. Looked to have much improved cardio, and wasn't worn down by Florian pressing him against the cage. As soon as the game went down to the ground it was over really, and it looked even more of a formality when BJ secured control of Kenny's back. Who's next for BJ Penn? Diego Sanchez?

It's pretty easy to say Fedor doesn't have the balls to fight the best behind your computer screen. He's had an amazing career. Dissapointing he didn't sign but he should probably just retire now.

Go on BJ son.

He has had an amazing career, but he's not stepped up when he had the chance and moved into the UFC, to give the fans what they want. He's a seriously good fighter, but I think he's pretty over-rated. If you look back at his last 5 fights, they've been against Arlovski (past his prime), Sylvia (even further over the hill), Hong Man-Choi, Matt Lindland and Mark Hunt. Hardly a who's who of MMA fighters. Brock Lesnar on the other hand, has fought consistently against the top competition since arriving at the UFC Heath Herring, Randy Couture, and avenged his only defeat against a top guy in Frank Mir. Fedor's not had a seriously tough contender since Cro Cop in 2005, that's 4 years of basically nothing fights. Now he had the chance to move up, silence Dana White for claiming he's not the best P4P fighter in the world, and dominate the UFC's ever improving HW division, but no, he decides (alongside his M-1 associates), that a move to Strikeforce is a better idea. :doh

Seriously, who's going to challenge him in Strikeforce? Overeem's an average fighter who's not defended his HW title for 2 years and won it against Buentello, Rogers is a good fighter but he's only fought 1 fighter of any note, Arlovski. Who else is there? No-one. In the UFC he could have taken on Lesnar (a fight we'd all love to see), Couture (a fight Randy's wanted for years), Nogueira again, Mir, Carwin, Velasquez, etc etc. The list goes on. If Fedor really wanted to take on the best, he could have done. His contract with M-1 has finished iirc, so he could easily have got himself away from them, and moved into the UFC, but he didn't, and will now not be able to prove he's the best. For that reason, I rate Anderson Silva and Georges St-Pierre ahead of him in the P4P stakes.

Yeah it's crap that he's fighting in strikeforce but oif you think it's because he's scared then you are incorrect.

The 'doesn't have the balls' comment was abit of a knee-jerk reaction to some very dissappointing news. Of course he isn't scared of facing Lesnar or anyone in the UFC, he's been fighting for years and taken on some of the best in the world. The comment also came from the frustration of not getting to see Fedor-Lesnar. That would be an epic fight, certainly a much more mouth watering concept than Lesnar vs Carwin/Velasquez/Couture or Nog, and light years ahead of Fedor vs Overeem, and I like Overeem.

The reasoning behind him not going to the UFC was all down to his idiotic M-1 representatives, most notably Finkelstein who thought it'd be a good idea to try and set up a co-promotion with M-1 and the UFC :laugh What a laughable idea that was, of course the UFC wasn't going to agree to it. Why would they co-promote with M-1? What's in it for them? Fedor, and that's it. The other companies M-1 have been affiliated with have all gone down the pot, PRIDE, Affliction and the other alludes me atm, could have been Elite XC, not 100% sure. Anyway, every company that M-1 have been affliated/co-promoted with have gone down the pot and are now non-existant. So there would have been no reason for the UFC to even consider co-promoting with them.

Fedor, who's contract with M-1 finished after his final Affliction fight iirc, should have just picked up and took it upon himself, to make sure he got himself the best deal. Surely Fedor got a say in the matter? I'd bet that if he was made aware of the extremely good UFC offer, he'd have taken it. I'm going to guess that Finkelstein didn't even tell Fedor that an offer had come in, and took it upon himself to worm his way into the deal. M-1 have stopped the fans from seeing what they want, and also stopped Fedor from earning a hell of alot of money, he would have been comfortably the highest paid fighter in the world, if Dana White's to be believed.

It's sad to see a fighter like Fedor having to spend the last few years of his career fighting relative nobodies, and if he happens to lose to any of them would just fuel Dana White's fire even more. The hardcore MMA fans know Fedor's the best HW in the world, but he really needed to come in and prove himself to the masses, beat Lesnar and make himself into the biggest name in the sport. At the moment, Lesnar is the biggest name in the sport. Fedor should be, but the longer he continues to reside in the weaker organisations, the less likely it'll be that he is truely recognised by the more casual UFC/MMA fan. Quite sad really.

Lets be honest about it though, Fedor was never going to leave M1. He is M1 really, without him they would be irrelevant. It would be nice but unrealistic.

I still hope that one day M1 will grow up and let him fight at least once, if the UFC ever goes to Japan and Dana White doesn't get his head chopped off then I still hope Fedor will think how can I be missing out on this. Realistically though I can see Fedor losing interest with the lack of competition and retiring before long.
