Story My Ashes - A C2k7 Career Story

looks good mate but would look lot better if you used colour, but its just a suggestion

England make it at Hobart

A superb bowling performance has led England to a win in their first tour game of the Ashes tour. Sajid Mahmood lead in wickets with 2-52 and Panesar and Flintoff both took 1 wicket, but it was economy which saw England home, with 3 bowlers going for less than 4 an over.

My Ashes Diary - #1 National Beginnings
The diary of Ashes events from Chez Spin's perspective

We arrived in Australia at Sydney, our base camp, 5 days ago now. Although there are a few familiar faces around from Lancashire, like Saj, Jimmy and Fred, it is a whole new experience for me. Boy is it hot round here as well! upwards of 35, and scheduled to reach 45 during the peak of the tour. I was dissappointed not to be given the PM XI game first up but I have been promised the NSW 4 day game which is next. Monty and I have become good mates, he is so likeable! Yet now we have to go head to head for a test position. I would hope my batting could give me an edge, but Monty is in form as he showed in Hobart, 1-28 I think he got. I have yet to settle into the changing room really, but everyone is very welcoming. I have been working hard in the nets bowling to Fred and KP, got smacked a little by KP but took his wicket a few times and he complemented my bowling after his net which was nice. Lets hope I can prove my worth against NSW and get into the first test team.

Seems like you're making a name for yourself in the camp Chez :D

Good luck against NSW mate, hope you got a 5-fer

England vs. New South Wales

Welcome to the SCG for England's second warm-up game of their Ashes campaign. Here in Sydney the pitch is looking flat, but it is a bit dry so it could crack later in the game and help the bowlers with variable bounce on the last day of this match. It should also turn on the last day, helping McGill and Spin out. There is no grass on this pitch at all, so I don't think there wil be any seam movement. It is also overcast, strangely for Sydney, and so swing should be a big factor for the bowlers, especially Lewis who will need to swing the ball to be a threat. If the ball does swing around, expect there to be more wickets than this pitch would suggest.

The toss has taken place in the middle and it was won by Andrew Flintoff for England. Not surprisingly he has chosen to bat first, obviously wanting to get the most out of the pitch early on and give young spinner Chez Spin the oppertunity to bowl on the last day.

From Chez Spin's Perspective

Another wicket has just fallen and it is 288/6 now, time for me to get out there and bat. Rob Key played well at the top of the innings and Freddy is still at the crease on 57 and playing well. I'll want to hang around with him to get some more runs on the board.

Over 1 - N Bracken
Fred started on strike and hit some to fielders. We take a single off the 4th ball to give me 2 balls on strike. They are both good balls on off stump, so I just block them away to get myself in. Bracken is getting some swing which could be difficult to play.

Over 2 - S McGill
The spinner brought on with the intention of trying to dismiss the tail, could be tricky to play. Fred hits the first ball to Deep Backward Square leg and sends me back when I go for the single, obviously doesn't trust me this early on in the innings. We do take the single on ball 3 to give me half the over. Nothing fancy, just need to play myself in and I blocked them away.

Over 3
Fred is moving up a gear, hitting the second ball of the over straight down the ground for 4, a great shot!Later in the over he glances it to the leg side for a single to give me a ball. It was towards leg stump so I gave it a glance and we ran hard for the 2 to get him on strike.

Over 4
Fred takes a single off the first ball this time round to give me most of the over. Off the 4th ball I hit a great cover drive which was cut off before the rope, we ran 2 out of it.

Over 5
Fred took the whole over and murdered Bracken around, starting with a 4 from an on drive, then 2 down the ground and a leg glance 4 off the final ball of the over, meaning I start on strike next over.

Over 6 - B Lee
Lee brought on with me on strike. I sense that I have to go after him to try and get him to bowl it where I want. First ball is short and wide so I cut him through point for 4! Next ball I cover drive for 2.

Then I get too complacent though, I tried to cover drive him but was done by the pace and he took my off stump out. Im gone for 10, I could have got more really. 320/7 at the loss of myu wicket.

England went on to get 364, Flintoff finishing on 110 not out, but he could have got more really.
