Very good DJ. Hope Aussies get through. Is Telstra Stadium on the game? Some teams I wouldn't have expected to qualify eg: Uzbekistan. have qualified. Good luck to everyone in there qualyfying stages.

They usually in real life get to the Asian play off and lose, they lost to Bahrain in real life and Bahrain lost to Trinidad and Tobago as they qualified

Australia have their play off with Fiji in my next month, September 2005

Paraguay and Ecuador on the way to Germany

South America

The "Blanquirrojo" and the "Amarillo y azul" ,(Paraguay and Ecuador), secured thier places in the World Cup Finals after both registering victories in their matches this month. Ecuador unsurprisingly beat Bolivia 2-0 in La Paz, while Paraguay pulled off a surprise win at home to Argentina, 1-0 to book their place after prolific striket Santa Cruz getting the winner. Argentina could have been all but certain of qualification with a win but are now put back in the mix in a very tight group. Brazil won 3-1 at home to Chile, and Peru won 2-0 in Venezuela, while Uruguay's chances took a blow after a 3-1 defeat to Colombia in Montevideo.

More September WCQ continental reports coming soon!

Australia is on track to play Peru. I think they are easier than Uruguay.

Africa Zone

The action in the Africa Qualifying is hotting up for the climax in October, after the results in September. Nigeria have already qualified from Group A, and it is a good job they have because they suffered a 3-2 defeat in Zambia, while Zimbabwe and Guinea also registered wins. However the other groups are still going to go down to the wire.

Group B, and Ghana home(2-0 Uganda), and Cameroon away(1-3 Algeria), both registered crucial wins, but Ghana still hold the advantage. There was a big turnaround, however in Group C, as while Congo DR beat Rwanda at home 2-0, Cote d'Ivoire threw away a three goal half time lead against already out South Africa drawing 3-3 at home, and this meant Congo DR took a 2 point lead at the top of the group.

Togo needed an injury time Salifou strike gave them a crucial win to keep their lead on top of the group. Morroco are still in the hunt with a 3-1 win over Congo, while Tunisia are definately out despite their 2-0 win over Burkina Faso. Group E is extremely tight, but Senegal's dreams look over in the tight group after another shock 2-0 defeat for surprise team Kenya thanks to an Oliech double. Mali also won, beating Cape Verde Islands at home 3-1. Angola are out despite a 2-0 win over Sudan. This leaves Senegal third and three points off the pace after the shock defeats to Kenya. Kenya are second on goal difference level with Mali who are top.

Congratulations to Nigeria and all the other teams who won.

England all but through to Germany after wins over Faroes and Ireland

Europe Zone

England have all but secured their place in Germany along with Serbia and Montenegro, who they are second to on goal difference. They firstly beat Faroe Islands 3-1. Rooney and Owen put england 2-0 up at half time, but the Faroes came back and minnows were back in the match after Gary Neville saw red and conceded a penalty which was converted. Rooney however cooled England's with a third to settle their nevres but it was an uncovincing performance. Next up, Ireland at Landsdowne Road and the Irish took a first half lead with Robbie Keane, but Owen finished superbly to draw the away side level and it seemed that was the way it would stay that way, but Rooney scored a late winner to break Irish hearts as it finished 2-1. serbia mean while beat Norway at home 2-0 and Cyprus away 2-1, to also all but secure their place in Germany.

Elsewhere, Switzerland missed out on the chance to secure qualification in Group 1, as they suffered a late first defeat to Portugal with Maniche with the late winner. Despite this, Portugal suffer a shock failure to qualify as Ukraine beat Kazakhstan and Lithuania. It is likely Switzerland and Ukraine, who play each other in October, will qualify as they like England or Serbia and Montenegro, will get the two best second placed side. However, that may depend on Group 2, as it has become a two horsed race between Scotland and Sweden, with Sweden beating Belgium(3-2) and Scandinavian rivals Finland(0-2). Scotland beat Andorra unconvincingly 3-1. Best second place will probably go to England or Serbia, then it will be between 2nd placed in Group 1 or 2.

In a tight Group 3, Poland have taken a two point lead over Austria with a 3-1 win over Albania and a 1-1 draw with Turkey. Northern Ireland have been unlucky in previous matches losing to late winners and their points tally doesn't tell the whole story. However against Latvia they were simply rolled over at Windsor Park, despite taking the lead, they went down a humiliating 5-1. With a great goal difference and a 6 point lead, Denmark are all but assured of a place in Germany after wins over Iceland and Malta. Italy and Greece are level on 14 points and will have to scrap for a play off place, and the two sides drew 2-2 and Itlay then beat Georgia 3-0, while Greece were held 1-1 by Iceland.

Group 6 is an extremely tight group, with 1st down to 5th separated by 2 points. Slovenia are top by a point, however have played a match more, after beating Bulgaria 2-0 and drawing with Israel 1-1. Israel also had the same score at home to Spain, while Spain then went on to draw 2-2 in Belarus. Belarus, Bulgaria, Israel, Spain and Slovenia, are all in with a chance of qualification and it will go down to the wire.

Wales managed a plucky draw in Cardiff, thanks to a late Hartson equalizer to the Van Nistlerooy opener. Wales are in third behind Czech Republic by three points, with Netherlands leading by one point. Wales also won 2-0 in Tallin against Estonia, while Netherlands beat minnows San Marino 5-0, Czech Republic registering a 2-0 win over neighbours Slovakia. Croatia hold a two point lead over France in Group 8 after wins away in Bosnia and Armenia. France also registered two wins, an Henry hatrick rescuing France from 2-0 down at home to Romania to win 3-2. The other win was away in Skopje beating Macedonia FYR 3-1. In another key game Romania drew 2-2 with Bosnia-Herzgovnia, which did little help fo either side.

North America

Guatemala are all but certain of a place in their first World Cup Finals. They beat Honduras 2-1 away, then they drew with Costa Rica to place them on top the group. Costa Rica moved up into 3rd two points above Trinidad and Tobago after that draw and a win over T&T, 2-1 at home, in the previous match. Mexico are second by one point after drawing 2-2 away with USA and thrashing bottom side Honduras 4-0 at the Stadio Azteca. USA are back in contention behind Trinidad & Tobago by one point of a that play off place. They beat Trinidad & Tobago 2-1 in the Port of Spain.

First Leg-Fiji 2 vs 2 Australia

Australia held and frustrated by plucky Fiji in Suva

Australia were left to be content with draw in the first leg play off match with Fiji in a thrilling match. Masinisau gave Fiji a surprise lead, being put through to finish superbly to give Fiji an early 15 minute advantage. However, the lead was not to last for long. Kewell headed in a cross from the right, and his header trickled in over the line. It seemed the Socceroos would take control of the match from there. So it seemed in the second half, as while they did not dominate, they had more and the better chances.

Yet, Australia's tormentor, Masinisau was in on the act again, putting them back ahead with a good shot just inside the area, beating Schwarzer at his near post. However, any hopes of a famous win were quickly eradicated as Viduka did brilliantly to turn his defender and then finish superbly. That was the way it stayed, although Australia were indebted to Schwarzer who made a brilliant save in the dying minutes to keep it level going into the second leg.

Kewell the hero as Australia squeeze through

Second Leg - Australia 2 - 1 Fiji aet

When Australia stepped out onto the pitch, they would have probably expected an easy win and they'd seen the best of Fiji. However, the comfortable win did not come and a tense evening was ahead. Instead, unlike the first leg which was open, it was a tight, gritty tense game. There were not many chances, but both keepers were called upon to make great saves in the first half. Kewell's header was excellently saved by the Fiji keeper in the best chance in a tense first half.

The second half was tense with more chances. Masinisau had a chance cleared off the line by Popovic and on another occasion Australia desperately scrambled it away. Then, against the run of play, Australia caught Fiji on the break and Viduka finished emphatically to give Australia the lead with 18 minutes left. It seemed this would be enough for Australia, but Fiji had other ideas. When all seemed lost, Toma scored a late equalizer finishing a one on one with the keeper to send the match into inprobable extra time. In extra time both sides were desperate to avoid penalties, and both went for the winner. It was Fiji who were made to pay as they were caught on the break again, and Kewell put Australia ahead. They pressured Australia but they could not equalize and the Fiji great effort and great journey was over. For Australia, the dream lives on.
