No Hawk-eye for India - England series after DRS made mandatory

I will point out that people are critical of the accuracy of umpire's predictive powers and eyesight, they have ONE view and at full speed. Give them slow motion replays and their accuracy would improve, it isn't that hawk-eye is magic in any way, it's just umpires are ONLY HUMAN.

They were given just the slow mo replays originally with and Daryl Harper made multiple shocking decisions.

if umpires couldn't get it right with replay

As above. Hell once he even forgot to put his headphones in.

Hawkeye is 96-97% accurate significantly better than any human.

Why is it there was the clamour for 'technology' in the first place? Because smartarses in chairs watched replays in slow motion and could see that umpires without that luxury were making mistakes.................................. :rolleyes

Funny how the smartarses at home and in s*y studios and commentary boxes could see, via replays only, the mistakes were being made, yet don't advocate using that to check decisions but instead 'technology' as if umpires couldn't get it right with replays :facepalm :rolleyes

I enjoyed your post, but I would confidently say that without Hawkeye in particular, we on our arses in our armchairs would not have had the confidence in our second-guess decisions to get any review applied to the umpire's verdict. Anyway, slow-mo is technology and there must be human involvement even in the 'fully automated' UDRS.

Time for a bitch about the DRS system.
The system in use in the current series has taken the weakest element of DRS imo. Especially as batsmen are now sticking vaseline on their edges to cheat hotspot.
There were 3 howlers on the lbws that could have been overturned by anyone with 2 eyes let alone needing hawkeye predictions.
The half-arsed compromise this series only serves to discredit DRS which is probably what the BCCI wanted.
Let's find a way to speed up snicko, let's ban players from putting grease on their bats and let's use Hawkeye which is approximately 1000x more accurate than Billy Bowden.

Mega fail atm.

I have to agree with everything you say, the game is going backwards because no one would stand up to the BCCI.

The amount of frustration this match was annoying, I just don't get why any one wouldn't want a system that doesn't improve the fairness of the game. It's beyond baffling.

I've said it before with Snicko, that what they should do is when it's used, make that the drinks break. Then you don't lose any time. Cricket has to be flexible moving in to the future.

Suresh Raina survived a plumb LBW shout on the final day of 2000th Test match. Had UDRS been there, he would have been referred and given Out. But it was not to be as UDRS is not applied in this series. Anyways, Raina didn't do much for the result to change of the test match.

Are batsmen really applying grease to their bats? the first I have heard of this.

Tony Greig seems to bring this up in commentary a lot. I wonder who he learned it from.

I notice today that Andy Flower is complaining about the limitations. He reckons the ICC should have forced BCCI to accept ball-tracking. I think the more Indians see Hot Spot, the more they'll want Hawkeye to be honest. I trust Hawkeye a lot more myself. Hotspot is good for inside edges on LBWs, but for caught behinds it seems a bit iffy.

yeah I saw that Flower wants the ICC to have told India to get on with the normal DRS, which they should have done. I think Hotspot is good for picking up most edges and used in conjunction with snicko will allow for the right decision to be made.

Huh, Is that even related to topic? You sure you know what I meant or just wanted to bring that on every topic.

Anyways, BCCI won't mind rejecting Hawk-eye if it goes like this. ICC need to step up and do something asap

Totally agree with flower. Hawkeye is the most important aspect of the drs and needs to be used. Its to bad the ICC and other boards lack balls to stand up to the BCC. Really a sad state of affairs.:(:facepalm

I am amazed to see how many indians are now saying that Hawkeye has many flaws yet I still didn't forget the incident of Sachin in WC semifinal and the support of hawkeye and DRS at that time.

Hawkeye itself is better then to judge by naked eyes even if the eyes are of Aleem Dar.
