No Hawk-eye for India - England series after DRS made mandatory

What about Sky? After all, England are the home side and Sky are their official broadcasters who already have the necessary equipment right? Slightly confusing to me where ESPN plays a role in the usage of DRS here. First it was a rule that '2 boards' had to agree, now it seems 2 'broadcasting groups' have to agree for this to be implemented! :/

It doesn't matter if ESPN are broadcasting or not. Sky have the equipment so the umpires will use (would have used) their feeds.

Lets hope ESPN use sky's feed directly.

I think the 2.5 meter thing in UDRS is only the drawback of it. If that problem is eradicated, then UDRS is a pretty good thing to have in cricket.

What the hell is up with the ICC???? They have just said that the DRS will now be compulsory but the England-India series will be played without Hawk-Eye???? I don't get it? Hawk Eye has been a staple of international cricket for more than half a decade. This is some of the stupidest cricket news I have heard all year, looks like the ICC just hit common sense out the park yet again.

With the new announcement I thought I'd try and delve a bit further, with an open mind, as to why the BCCI may not agree with hawk-eye. So I went to the hawkeye website and found the research the hawkeye team had carried out to find out the reliabilty and accuracy of hawkeye and after reading through it, I'm still baffled as to how they can't accept it.

Maybe they're scared of Swanny...

News from WI is Indian team does not want to go to England due to Swanny fever... :lol

Btw DRS is still not sure thing.

"The mandatory terms and conditions for the DRS that have now been recommended to the Executive Board for approval"

Agreement on DRS after Hot Spot is made mandatory | Cricket News | Cricinfo ICC Site | ESPN Cricinfo

Let us wait for confirmation.

A few points

1. If the price is indeed as expensive as suggested, BCCI has strengthened its grip more on weaker nations. The decision on cost has not been taken yet....

2. Hotspot was a BCCI requirement and they have it in.

3. Just 1 review. Whose stupid idea was it?

4. Nothing against Pakistan, but if and when Cricket returns I would be interested in knowing in how easy it is to license Hotspot (since many countries have military restrications). Same with Zim as well. Anyone know if this technology has been used in these two countries before?

I like the "We'll give ?10k to charity if we're proven to be wrong." Go on BCCI, make some charities very rich!

The 2.5M rule is indeed a rule consistent with what Umpires are taught (through official boards, of which I have done) regardless of Hawkeye, so I don't get that complaint of the system. It's damning evidence and a great read. Even in the absolute worst case scenario it's still accurate to an inch and is generally within half a cm. We shouldn't even be discussing this, it should and has to be mandatory.

------

teamindia - 1 review is for ODI's only, which I think is the right decision, keeps the pace of the game, makes people think about the decision and it's only 50 overs.

I just think they've ditched the component that was the most refined and fair, leaving a system that will probably become infuriating.
