With NSW starting to dominate the Aussie squad again I was thinking how a NSW team would go against the Rest of Australia. Here are the lineups I've come up with:

Rest of Australia
Chris Rogers
Michael Klinger/Shaun Marsh
Ricky Ponting
Michael Hussey
Marcus North/George Bailey
Cameron White
Tim Paine/Matthew Wade/Luke Ronchi
Mitchell Johnson
Jason Krejza/Bryce McGain
Peter Siddle/Clint McKay
Ben Hilfenhaus

NSW
Philip Hughes
Shane Watson
Usman Khawaja
Simon Katich
Michael Clarke
Brad Haddin
Steven Smith
Nathan Hauritz
Trent Copeland
Stuart Clark
Doug Bollinger

Phil Jaques Josh Hazelwood, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Bracken in reserve. Also can add O'Keefe who probably is the next in line for spinners after Hauritz and Smith given Krejza is in Tas 2nd 11, McGain is too old and the other states don't even play a spinner half the time.

Only real weakness in the NSW side would be the pace bowling. Copeland has made a brilliant start to his career but no idea how he'll go at the next level. Clark maybe tailing off a bit, Bollinger still unknown against quality opposition. Spin, all rounder department and batting look really good, probably could give the Rest of Australia side a good run.

The way we are going it would be close. Our batting looks solid. The bowling is pretty good with Stevie Smith and Copeland in top form. Dougie, Hauritz and Clark are all top level bowlers too.

In fact the whole team bar 2 have played for Australia.

Haha, you're right. If there were no international fixtures for a summer you would have to think NSW would win everything easy.

OMG, has Shane Watson even played for NSW yet?!?! :p

Hmm, just three NSW players aren't home-grown, that's pretty solid.

I reckon ROA would win, seeing as they've got the main guns in Ponting, Hussey and Johnson, plus the better fast bowling attack, but it would be a good contest.

I'd be interested in a State of Origin concept.

The thing is that if a player gets a national contract, they're off the state books, so the state can contract another player. NSW have more than a quarter of Australia's contracted domestic players as a result.

Whats up with Mark Cameron these days for NSW?

Would be nice if there were higher profile games like these in Australia. Besides the Twenty20 Big Bash, state games have probably dried up quite a bit.

Yea maybe like what is done over here in county cricket, where the MCC plays the County Champions to open the season at lords can be done with Sheild cricket.

In bygone eras, "vs the rest" matches were not only a regular event, but part of the national selection process.

Will Michael Clarke play???
as his is having personal issues...

:facepalm:rtfl

Would be great to have more rep matches in Australia. Atm we have two every year, the PM XI and now the All*Stars game.
