The tournament began with close matches, the first match was played between Balochistan Bears & Punjab Lions. Punjab, batting first were bowled out for 172. Sami Aslam top scored with 58 off 88 deliveries. Mitchell Johnson took 4 wickets for 42 runs in his 10.0 overs. Bears chased down that target with ridiculous ease, they had 9 wickets and 153 balls to spare. Ahmed Shehzad and Hashim Amla scored 74 off 77, and 84 off 56 respectively. Only Tanvir Ahmed took a wicket for Punjab Lions.
The second match was played between the Gilgit Baltistan Jaguars and the Sindh Dolphins. Gilgit Baltistan Jaguars batting first, were bowled out for 193 in 45.1 overs. The local player, Abdul Shakoor was the top scorer with 43 runs off 71 balls. Shahid Afridi was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/26. Dolphins unsteadily chased down that target with four wickets to spare. Azhar Ali scored 92 runs off 100 balls to save his team from being outplayed, because none of the other batsmen ever looked good. James Anderson, Ehsan Adil & Zulfiqar Babar all bagged 2 wickets, conceding 43, 32 & 44 respectively.
The third match was played between the finalists of the last season, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Panthers were put in to bat after losing the toss. They put up an impressive total of 290 in their 50.0 overs. Courtesy some intelligent bit of batting from their captain, Younis Khan and their middle order batsman Asad Shafiq, who scored 83 and 76 respectively. Saeed Ajmal picked 2 wickets for 48 runs. The Rams chased it down with 21 balls to spare. Misbah, Kohli, de Villiers & Watson all seemed to have chipped in with some valuable contributions. Sadaf took 1 wicket for 43 runs in 10.0 overs.
The last match of round 1, between FATA Falcons & Combined Services Cheetahs ended up as a tie. Cheetahs bowled out the Falcons for 221 in 45 overs, Martin Guptill's 71 off 64 balls was the highest score for FATA. Josh Hazlewood took 4 wickets for 41 runs in his 10.0 overs. The Cheetahs could only replicate the target and were bowled out in 46.0 overs, Anwar Ali's 44 was their highest. Abdur Rehman took 3 wickets for 26 runs. Josh Hazlewood was awarded the Man of the Match award for his scintillating 4-wicket haul on a flat track.
Punjab Lions' new owner announces axing of coaching staff
In his first press conference after taking over the Punjab Lions' franchise, owner Talha Hayat announced the sackings of Mohammad Shoaib as head and fielding coach, Mohammad Yousuf as batting coach and Heath Streak as bowling coach. "Punjab has always produced great cricketers, but the team's performance in the last 2 seasons weren't able to demonstrate that. Therefore, we have decided to sack the whole coaching staff. The new staff will be announced shortly" he said. When asked who were the possible candidates, he responded " We have been in touch with a couple of great Pakistani players of the past, but that's all i can say at the moment"

The rules are simple, You can have a maximum of four overseas players in Your line-up, and You need at least one uncapped player in Your line-up. Obviously, You'll need a 'keeper and at least five capable bowlers. Time limit : 48 hours.
