Online Streaming Subscriptions

**** Willow's stupid world cup deal. What's wrong with offering 15$ a month. Its with deals like this they kill the curiosity of people wanting to get into the sport.
ICC should automatically induct USA into all future ICC events including the WC - then ESPN may cover it.

I think they did that in 2004 ICC Champions Trophy, but it didn't help when USA couldn't pass 100 in the 2 games they played.

By what I'm reading on their website, they guarantee me all events shown on Willow.tv for $15 USD.

So why would anyone in their right mind pay an extra $139 - either they're lying, or I'm missing something.

And is this truly in HD? I'll fork over $15 USD to watch it in HD.

Its not TRUE HD. Willow is barely 480i but with very good bitrate and makes for a decent quality full screen, but its still standard definition.

The World Cup is said to be telecast in HD resolutions (720i or 1080i). So far, all series have been in SD. If Willow can telecast the HD version of the WC with their 1mbps quality stream, it could be really great.

Willow can suck my balls if they think I'm paying 150 bucks to watch a month of ODI cricket.

I know you guys are talking about streaming subscriptions in the USA, but does anybody know if there is an alternative to paying Sky for cricket. Ideally i'd still like to get all the domestic stuff, but if it's not possible then i don't mind.

No, Sky owns the broadcasting rights to everything ECB related. And they pretty much are the only broadcaster in the UK for any cricket. Which sucks, cos it's the main reasons why the general interest is dying out there.

129$ PPV for World Cup + 90$ (6 months till June) - 90$ ( 6 months free from July till December 2011) = 129$ for 6 months instead of 90$ for 6 months.

Effectively we are paying 40$ just for ICC World Cup.

Also not to mention it's on my 52 inch TV and not a monitor.
You can always plug your computer into a TV.

Sounds like you get the 6 months free afterwards which includes things such as India's tour to England. Definitely a good deal for Indian fans, it seems, since India has a bunch of tours coming up.

The thing that concerns me is that none of this stuff is written on their early bird page on their homepage. Which makes me believe that offer is only valid if you are currently on their subscription (which I'm not). In that case it makes more sense for me to not do this since most of the WC games will be at 3am here anyway.

the matches start at 2am in the morning here in Canada and most of Pak games are non-holidays so I guess I can live without willow.tv for the time being.... would have loved the hd quality though since I recently got wireless HDMI to broadcast my PC on my HDTV

Yeah, I'm gonna stick to free stuff. Maybe they will have a cheaper semifinal package or something, if India is around till then.

Sohum regarding the "I can hook up my computer to the TV"

While that is true it's also a giant bitch to do, compared to just coming home and turning on the TV. Also with having WIllow on Dish, I can just DVR the night matches and watch them very easily. The match replay option on willow online is crap, it's always lower quality and very hard to forward or rewind to a specific spot.

I'm gonna be pulling all nighters for sure. It's the world cup, people! I will definitely catch all the India matches as best I can.

I need to get a DVR...

I don't understand why you'd want to, you aren't going to win the WC, we are :p

What's the package like on Dish?

I think Dish should be the same price too (minus the goodies like 6 months free, etc).

Most likely me too. Hope our games are day/nighters for the most part because I can sleep at 9pm and get up at 3am and still have the sleep for the day (and not sleep in the afternoon).

Depends on your set-up. Back during the last WC I had hooked my laptop up to my TV without too many problems. All you need is one cable.

The DVR stuff for sure is better with Dish.

All-nighters would be an option if there was no work the next day.
