Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis embark on their last season of international cricket after more than a decade of terrorising batsmen around the world, with both players set to retire alongside Saeed Anwar at the end of the 2003 World Cup in South Africa.
The first series of the season will be at home against the all conquering Australian team, with Pakistan hoping to gain revenge for their series losses to these opponents in 98 and 99.

Well this is very original, I hope that this goes well because there aren't any ICC 2002 stories around! Great to see Wasim and Waqar back as well. Good luck pal.

Pakistan v Australia - 1st Test at Rawalpindi, October 2002.

Pakistan have beaten Australia by a huge margin after winning an important toss on a pitch that was later condemned by Australian captain Steve Waugh as being "substandard" and "not fit for international cricket".
Pakistan's leg spinners, Danish Kaneria and Shahid Afridi, were virtually unplayable and Wasim Akram was at his brilliant best as only 3 Australian batsman managed double figures during the match.
Yousuf Youhana batted brilliantly as he justified his promotion to the number 4 position ahead of the more experienced Inzamam-ul-Haq and was named man of the match for his double of 55 and 102 in a match where ball dominated bat for the most part.
The only consolation for the Australians was a fine bowling performance by Brett Lee, who took 5-65 in the first innings.
The ease with which Pakistan won was surprising after Australia reached a solid 121-2 after a century partnership by Langer and Ponting in reply to Pakistan's first innings of 272. Australia lost their last 8 wickets for 60 runs in the first innings, and were then all out for 86 in the second to lose by a massive 364 runs.

Pakistan 272 (Saeed Anwar 61, Yousuf Youhana 55, Inzamam-ul-Haq 56, Wasim Akram 24; G.McGrath 2-79, J.Gillespie 3-58, B.Lee 5-65) and 359 (Saeed Anwar 42, Shahid Afridi 38, Younis Khan 48, Yousuf Youhana 102, Moin Khan 27, Wasim Akram 41; G.McGrath 2-96, J.Gillespie 2-103, B.Lee 2-70, S.Warne 2-63) beat Australia 181 (J.Langer 50, R.Ponting 61, S.Warne 26; Wasim Akram 3-22, Waqar Younis 2-16, Shahid Afridi 3-27, Danish Kaneria 2-44) and 86 (J.Langer 34; Wasim Akram 2-5, Danish Kaneria 4-25, Shahid Afridi 3-6) by 364 runs.
Man of the Match: Yousuf Youhana.

Pakistan v Australia - 2nd Test at Lahore, October 2002

Pakistan have wrapped up the series with an amazing come from behind victory as they posted the (then) highest winning 4th innings total in test history.
Australia won the toss and batted first on a belter of a wicket but could only manage a disappointing first innings total of 253 as cloudy conditions assisted the bowlers.
Pakistan slipped to 160-8 in reply before Azhar Mahmood and Waqar Younis staged a recovery to cut the first innings deficit to 10 runs.
The Australians threatened to run away with the match in their second innings as they reached 345-5, before a late burst by Azhar Mahmood gave the Pakistanis some hope.
An amazing record second wicket partnership of 336 between Saeed Anwar and Younis Khan on a worn pitch and in cloudy conditions took Pakistan to within sight of victory before some late hitting by Inzamam-ul-Haq saw them across the line with just 2 balls to spare after 22 were required from the final 3 overs.
Surpisingly Matthew Hayden was named man of the match for his allround effort of 60 and 76 with the bat, and a career best 3-32 with the ball.

Australia 253 (M.Hayden 60, R.Ponting 34, S.Katich 66, A.Gilchrist 31; Waqar Younis 2-36, Azhar Mahmood 2-55, Saqlain Mushtaq 2-66, Danish Kaneria 2-56) and 402 (M.Hayden 76, R.Ponting 97, S.Katich 30, M.Waugh 66, A.Gilchrist 35, B.Lee 37*; Azhar Mahmood 3-53, Danish Kaneria 3-98) lost to Pakistan 243 (Shahid Afridi 32, Younis Khan 51, Azhar Mahmood 57, Waqar Younis 38; J.Gillespie 2-61, B.Lee 2-47, J.Dawes 2-40, M.Hayden 3-32) and 415-4 (Saeed Anwar 173, Younis Khan 159, Inzamam-ul-Haq 25*; J.Gillespie 2-107) by 6 wickets.
Man of the match: M.Hayden.

Pakistan v Australia - 3rd Test at Karachi, October 2002

Pakistan have completed a comprehensive victory to achieve a 3-0 whitewash over a hapless Australian side.
The victory was set up by an excellent batting effort and a good comeback with the ball after Australia reached 291-3 on the opening day thanks to centuries from Langer and Katich.
Shahid Afridi was the star with the ball and as he picked up match figures of 7-48, while Saeed Anwar was named man of the match for his 128 and not out 30*. Most of the Pakistani batsmen contributed to a big first innings total that gave them a 162 run lead over the Australians with 2 days left in the match and victory was completed on the 5th morning. Saeed Anwar added 204 with Younis Khan for the 2nd wicket before a 4th wicket partnership of 170 between Yousuf Youhana and Inzamam-ul-Haq, who both fell in the 90's, put Pakistan in complete control
Saeed Anwar was named man of the series for his 449 runs at an average of 89.80.

Australia 361 (J.Langer 130, S.Waugh 53, S.Katich 103; Wasim Akram 3-53, Shahid Afridi 4-21) and 229 (M.Hayden 22, S.Waugh 51, R.Ponting 34, S.Katich 30, A.Bichel 24, B.Lee 25; Saqlain Mushtaq 3-56, Danish Kaneria 3-69, Shahid Afridi 3-27) lost to Pakistan 523 (Saeed Anwar 128, Younis Khan 67, Yousuf Youhana 91, Inzamam 93, Azhar Mahmood 47, Wasim Akram 47; G.McGrath 3-128, J.Gillespie 2-110, B.Lee 3-116) and 68-1 (Saeed Anwar 30*, Younis Khan 21*) by 9 wickets.
