Pakistan v Sri Lanka - Coca Cola Champions Trophy in Sharjah - match report

On a Normal pitch, in Humid conditions, Pakistan elected to bat first. Afridi fell cheaply after being brought into the side at the expense of Hasan Raza, but Saeed was in his best form as he punished any error in length by the bowlers. A mid innings stumble had the score at 157/5 before Razzaq and Moin added 74 for the 6th wicket, with Razzaq going on to make his highest one day international score (at this stage). Vaas bowled well but the other bowlers were all expensive and Sri Lanka were set 291 to win.
Sri Lanka lost a wicket in the first over and never really looked like winning in a dissappointing reply. Kaluwitharana batted well in his return to the opening position, while Jayasuriya scored a hard hitting 50 after strangely moving down to the middle order but when he fell the other batsmen struggled to keep up with the required run rate. Tillekeratne scored an attractive half century but by then the Sri Lankans had given up all hope of victory and were just looking to bat out their overs and restrict the damage to their net run rate in the event of a tie on points, they were eventually bowled out when Wasim had Murali lbw with a yorker to sew up a 70 run victory. Razzaq was named man of the match for his fine all round perfomance of 83 with the bat, 2-26 in a tight spell with the ball, and 2 catches.
