Story Pakistan Test and ODI tours (C2005 PS2 Medium Level)

Pakistan v South Africa - 1st Test - Pakistan win by 329 runs.

Mushtaq Ahmed and Saqlain Mushtaq then wrapped up the tail to bat pad catches in two overs of spin into the footmarks in a dramatic conclusion.

South Africa will play Pakistan A in a 4 day match in preparation for the second test. This is a vital game for South Africa's batsmen, who apart from Dippenaar and Klusener, have been woefully out of sorts so far on this tour. Pakistan A have named an unusual side with no specialist spin bowler and only 3 front line seamers, though batsmen Mohammad Hafeez (off spin), Imran Farhat (leg spin) and Naved Latif (right arm medium) are all useful bowlers and will lend vital support.

Pakistan A: Mohammad Hafeez, Imran Farhat, Taufeeq Umar, Yasir Hameed, Naved Latif (c), Farhan Adil, Saeed Bin Nasir, Atiq-uz-Zaman (wk), Naved-ul-Hasan, Fazl-e-Akbar, Shabbir Ahmed.

South Africa: M.Bruyns, A.Bacher, J.Kallis (c), N.McKenzie, B.Dippenaar, A.Hall, N.Pothas (wk), P.Strydom, D.Crookes, M.Ntini, D.Terbrugge.

The pitch is Dry and the weather is Hot and Sunny, conditions which are ideal for batting and, coupled with Pakistan A's weak looking bowling attack, should give the South African batsmen little excuse for failure.

Pakistan A v South Africa - 4 day match - Drinks, Session 1, Day 1

Pakistan A have won the toss and elected to bat first in ideal batting conditions and have got off to a very quick start against some disappointing bowling. The only wicket to fall was that of Imran Farhat, as he played a back foot cover drive to a Ntini delivery and edged to Terbrugge in the slips. Mohammad Hafeez and Taufeeq Umar have looked untroubled and both have hit a six over the leg side as they look to dominate a second string attack. Mohammad Hafeez reached his half century off 36 balls in a confident display that, allied to his ability with the ball, could be putting pressure on the out of form Shahid Afridi for an opening berth in the test XI. Terbrugge has been terribly expensive and has lost ground to Ntini in the race for the 3rd seamers position in the test team.

Pakistan A 121-1 (14 overs) Extras 3

Mohammad Hafeez 58* (47 balls) 8 fours 1 six
Taufeeq Umar 40* (29 balls) 6 fours 1 six

Imran Farhat c Terbrugge b Ntini 12 (8 balls) 1 four 20-1

M.Ntini 7-0-54-1
D.Terbrugge 6-0-60-0
D.Crookes 1-0-5-0

Pakistan A v South Africa - 4 day match - Lunch, Day 1

The South Africans have fought back during the second hour of play, claiming 3 wickets and slowing the scoring rate. Mohammad Hafeez edged a cover drive to Bacher at 2nd slip from Ntini, Yasir Hameed fell the same way with the only difference being that his shot was off the back foot, and Naved Latif top edged an attempted glide to 3rd man off the back foot off Terbrugge and lobbed a simple catch to Strydom at 3rd slip. Taufeeq Umar has batted brilliantly, reaching his 50 off 31 balls, and is nearing his century. Ntini has been impressive and looks to finally be finding some form.

Pakistan A 214-4 (28 overs) Extras 9

Taufeeq Umar 92* (69 balls) 12 fours 1 six
Farhan Adil 4* (1 ball) 1 four

Mohammad Hafeez c Bacher b Ntini 59 (51 balls) 8 fours 1 six 123-2
Yasir Hameed c Bacher b Ntini 33 (31 balls) 7 fours 191-3

Pakistan A v South Africa - 4 day match - Drinks, Session 2, Day 1

Taufeeq Umar has played a brilliant innings to place Pakistan A in a very strong position as he raced to his hundred of just 72 balls and continued to flay in increasingly dispirited attack to all corners of the ground. Farhan Adil has offered good support in a stand that has now passed the hundred mark and was just short of 50 as drinks were taken. The South African attack has looked very ordinary, apart from the pacey Ntini, on a pitch that has offered the bowlers nothing.

Pakistan A 311-4 (42 overs) Extras 10

Taufeeq Umar 144* (112 balls) 20 fours 1 six
Farhan Adil 48* (42 balls) 8 fours

M.Ntini 16-0-104-3
D.Terbrugge 8-0-74-1
D.Crookes 11-1-83-0
J.Kallis 5-1-30-0

Pakistan A v South Africa - 4 day match - Tea, Day 1

Although the scoring rate has slowed slightly, Pakistan A have continued to dominate. Farhan Adil was the only wicket to fall during the second session as he mistimed a cover drive and chipped a Kallis delivery straight to Crookes at cover, after scoring exactly half of a 166 run 5th wicket stand with Taufeeq Umar. Taufeeq Umar is now eyeing a double century and has batted superbly in a chanceless innings. Taufeeq Umar reached his 150 off 117 balls, while Farhan Adil passed 50 off 44 balls.

Pakistan A 396-5 (56 overs) Extras 12

Taufeeq Umar 178* (151 balls) 24 fours 1 six

Pakistan A v South Africa - 4 day match - Drinks, Session 3, Day 1

South Africa have failed to pick up a wicket in the hour after Tea, though they have managed to slow the scoring with some defensive field placings. Taufeeq Umar has become bogged down as he approaches his maiden first class double century and made his first error when he drove the ball in the air just to the right of the cover fieldsman. Saeed Bin Nasir has batted well, reaching 50 off 41 balls, though he has survived a difficult chance when he drove uppishly to cover of Kallis where a diving Crookes spilt the catch.

Pakistan A 467-5 (70 balls) Extras 13

Taufeeq Umar 198* (187 balls) 25 fours 1 six
Saeed Bin Nasir 64* (55 balls) 14 fours

M.Ntini 16-0-104-3

Pakistan A v South Africa - 4 day match - Stumps Day 1

Pakistan A have continued to plunder the South African bowling attack, with Taufeeq Umar unbeaten at stumps after reaching a maiden first class double century off 194 balls. The loss of Saeed Bin Nasir to a mistimed leg glance, caught by a diving Kallis at square leg off the impressive Ntini, failed to slow down the Pakistan A scoring, as wicket keeper Atiq-uz-Zaman blazed a half century off 32 balls including a leg side slog for six off Kallis. Ntini bowled with genuine pace and was the only bowler to trouble the batsmen during a miserable day for bowlers. Pakistan A seem intent on batting on to allow Taufeeq Umar the chance of posting a triple century, though he has slowed down markedly after a blazing start and may run out of partners before he achieves the landmark.

Pakistan A 562-6 (85 overs) Extras 19

Taufeeq Umar 229* (232 balls) 26 fours 1 six
Atiq-uz-Zaman 52* (34 balls) 6 fours 1 six

Saeed Bin Nasir c Kallis b Ntini 70 (66 balls) 15 fours 480-6

M.Ntini 18-0-117-4
D.Terbrugge 8-0-74-1
D.Crookes 18-1-110-0
J.Kallis 20-1-129-1
P.Strydom 11-0-64-0
A.Hall 10-0-53-0

I'm quitting this story because I have discovered I can play well on hard level now. I will be starting a new story soon with Pakistan. Sorry if you were enjoying this story, but I think you will find my hard level story more interesting because the opposition will be more competitive.
