Patch 2 - hugely positive, some minor negatives

I've also twice been bowling, got an edge and the keeper has caught it and after that all that happens is a few players are standing together and nothing else happens

Not a bug and you can do so yourself even now. Feel free to edit the teams used in career mode, add intl players you want to play with/against to the said teams and start your career.

But for that I'd have to restart my career which I wouldn't want to.

In terms of shots going in air, I also felt the same while playing on PC version( in particular, the offside shots). But I am still not able to conclude whether my timing is not correct or, the shots really going in air always.

For example, this dismissal in video - just not sure whether it is my timing mistake or the nature of shot itself. Damn, thought that it went like a rocket to the fence but shocked to see it landing in safe hands!

I don't think it is a timing issue as I can understand if you occasionally miss time a shot but not every shot. It happens far too often.

I'm not certain whether it's supposed to be my timing or not - I'm pretty sure I was late on this shot, and the setup (as you'll see from the video) would suggest to me that the ball should have not carried to the guy at short cover.

Except it did.

More than frustrating (my boy was on 31, had some confidence and was going well).

@Biggs: whaddaya reckon man, should I have timed this one better?

I think you should've filmed it in landscape...

I don't see any obvious changes post Patch 2 apart from the bowling meter needles 'judder' when bowling...I still have the keeper whipping off the bails fairly regularly when batsman is stood in crease. How easy is it to remove patch 2?

----------

Is there a thread that lists what the Patch 2 improvements are?

Nice one.

I particularly like how irrelevant, and yet at the same time dismissive, this post is.

Those are some skills, man, you should've been a banker. Or a flatworm.

You're welcome.

Going purely on the visual - which is only a representation of the actual interaction anyway - you've got a firm contact but knee high on the up (assuming it's not a full toss) and outside half of the bat, so I don't think holing out at short cover is that incredibly contrived a result. Footwork looks a bit leg side?

Timing wise you're playing the ball right under your nose and the bat is angled down at the moment of contact, but I don't know how literally we can expect this to apply in the physics given the contact. The bad contact - maybe caused by a combo of you choosing to play on the up and a little bit of movement - would trump the correct timing in the game's order of priorities, perhaps?

I guess the key to solving this mystery is whatever the explanation is for the location of the contact. If that's traceable to ball deviation or a footwork mistake or something like that, then that seems like a fair cop.

eta - what would be awesome is an analysis feature on replay. They're not going to want to add in a huge new feature but just the footwork and timing info from practice matches would be really useful - especially considering the practice facilities don't have replay options (that I've found, did I miss them?).

Agreed. Clearly we can't read too much into the graphics, because (as I pointed out in the voiceover) the ball has gone part way through the bat before it goes to short cover.

It raced to short cover, though. Not clear in the video because I slowed it down, but it certainly reacted like it came off the bat pretty solid.

The bat on ball contact needs to be interpreted as being representative. We're talking about fixed animations trying to represent actions that in the real world would be less than so. This would be the case in any video game.

In reality I think you'd have to settle with the fact you probably got a thick edge. The game can't simulate that graphically, but the ball will have rolled over the edge and picked up a deflection. That's how the game sees it, even though the graphics were out under scrutiny. Mechanicaly, the bat edges will have hitboxes, and the ball will have crossed it.

I agree with you here but when I watch cricket, the spinner's stock ball is usually consistent (ie. on a turning wicket, the ball will turn more often than not and vice versa). I don't think that the stock ball works like that in the game even when playing on a dusty pitch.

Flight seems to work fine though, which is somewhat realistic in that more time in the air = more time for the rotation to accelerate. In career mode you need to be using flight and drift more because of your bowler's lack of having any accrued skillpoints. Eventually you will get to a point where your stock ball starts to perform more adequately.

The bat on ball contact can't be interpreted that way, man. Because more than once I've had the ball pass completely through the bat, both while batting and while bowling. So, there's something buggy about the hitboxes ...

In terms of the thick edge, you'll note that the video represents a short period of time after the initial contact (as evidenced by, once again, the ball being inside the bat). On the initial contact it was much closer to the middle.

All that being said, I'm willing to accept that in this case my footwork wasn't all it could have been - and that the ball was probably short of a length for driving and should have been left rather than played.

It is, however, extremely frustrating.

Hi Guys, My first post here, Bought the PS3 Game when it was released in SA, been reading the forum for ages though, quick question, after the patch 2 update I started a new career, now my question is, if i start on Rookie or Amateur what determines when the level increases to Pro, Veteran and Legendary ? I want to start on a low level but don't want it to stay on that level throughout the career, I would like the difficulty to increase over time but would like to know what effects that process ?

As I understand it, the first difficulty increase is when your helmet rank goes up for the first time. The second is when you hit international level. It should only go up twice.
